Just A Mother written by Roy Jacobsen and has been published by MacLehose Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-10 with categories.

The fourth novel in a historical series that began with the International Booker-shortlisted The Unseen "Taken together, Jacobsen has given us an epic of Norway's experience of the first half of the 20th century that is subtle and moving" David Mills, Sunday Times "Jacobsen can make almost anything catch the light . . . One of Norway's greatest writers on the working class" Times Literary Supplement After a long journey through Norway, Ingrid has finally returned to Barrøy. Life has become more stable, but the war still casts its long shadows across the country. Former collaborators face cold shoulders or obscured retaliation. Others simply wish to leave the painful years in the past. One day a boy arrives on the island. Shortly thereafter, his father disappears. Ingrid assumes responsibility for the boy, and adopts him. As such, Mathias becomes a central part of the Barrøy community, together with Kaja, Ingrid's daughter by birth. Life on the island is demanding, but the letters from friends in Oslo and Trondheim tell of a Norwegian society undergoing dramatic changes. Which stories should Ingrid keep to herself, and which ones should she bring to light? What kind of future is she imagining? Translated from the Norwegian by Don Bartlett and Don Shaw Reviews for The Unseen "Even by his high standards, his magnificent new novel The Unseen is Jacobsen's finest to date, as blunt as it is subtle and is easily among the best books I have ever read" Eileen Battersby, Irish Times "A beautifully crafted novel . . . Quite simply a brilliant piece of work . . . Rendered beautifully into English by Don Bartlett and Don Shaw, The Unseen is a towering achievement that would be a deserved Booker International winner" Charlie Connelly, New European. "A profound interrogation of freedom and fate, as well as a fascinating portrait of a vanished time, written in prose as clear and washed clean as the world after a storm" Justine Jordan, Guardian "The subtle translation, with its invented dialect, conveys a timeless, provincial voice . . . The Unseen is a blunt, brilliant book" Tom Graham, Financial Times.

Some people 'find' themselves through God. Others achieve this through long distance travel, either walking the Camino del Santiago or visiting the great pyramids in Egypt. Then there are people (like me) who get to know their real selves through astrology and prior to that genealogy. Everyone though had one thing in common- they all went searching for their selves after trauma or heartache of some description. When I first discovered my ancestors and read about their many trials and tribulations via the ancestry website I was dumbfounded. Their hidden secrets (or so they thought) were now exposed for all to see thanks to the advances in technology, these historical records were now online. There were bigamous marriages, prostitution, many early deaths as well as some who went into the workhouse and one who had spent 18 years in the asylum. As I transferred the information from the database of my ancestry into my modern astrological software I met many aspects of my own current character, and in fact my own 'shadow'. Parts of which I was yet to master. Many of the ancestors were gifted in ways we still don't understand, even in this modern age-namely they were psychic, healers and visionaries. As I discovered more about the ancestors through their birth and death charts I also discovered more about myself and 'who' and 'what' was operating within me and through me. Science calls this DNA I call it Karma. Along with their blood and genes I had inherited their unfulfilled desires ,their repressed parts, their unresolved conflicts as well as memories. Let's hope I can bring resolution to these matters that are still outstanding once and for all and by the time I come to pass I have achieved everything that I ever wanted to..just so as my children and future generations can fulfil their own desires and not have to fulfil mine first. I am not alone, we are all spiritual seekers and how we find our own truth and peace matters not, only that we find it.

The last time Maeve saw her cousin was the night she escaped the cult they were raised in. For the past two decades, Maeve has worked hard to build a normal life in New York City, where she keeps everything—and everyone—at a safe distance. When Andrea suddenly reappears, Maeve regains the only true friend she’s ever had. Soon she’s spending more time at Andrea’s remote Catskills estate than in her own cramped apartment. Maeve doesn’t even mind that her cousin’s wealthy work friends clearly disapprove of her single lifestyle. After all, Andrea has made her fortune in the fertility industry—baby fever comes with the territory. The more Maeve immerses herself in Andrea’s world, the more disconnected she feels from her life back in the city; and the cousins’ increasing attachment triggers memories Maeve has fought hard to bury. But confronting the terrors of her childhood may be the only way for Maeve to transcend the nightmare still to come... "A fierce, frightening novel."—Rachel Harrison, author of Cackle

"Taut, absorbing and psychologically astute, in A Good Enough Mother Bev Thomas combines all the tension of a thriller with the emotional resonance of a powerful family drama." --Paula Hawkins, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Girl on the Train "Perfect for fans of The Silent Patient." --Booklist A heart-stopping mother's story of love and loss, and a riveting drama that lets us inside the secret world of therapist and patient. Ruth Hartland is the director of a trauma therapy unit in London. A psychotherapist with twenty years of experience, she is highly respected in her field. But her family life tells another story: her marriage has fractured and her grown daughter, Caroline, has moved far away to Australia. Most devastatingly, Caroline's twin brother, Tom, has disappeared and has had no contact with anyone for two years. Ruth's fragile son has always been sensitive and anxious, the opposite of his cheerful and resilient sister. She cannot give up hope of finding him, but feels she is living a kind of half-life, waiting for him to return. Then Ruth is assigned a new patient, a young man who bears a striking resemblance to Tom. Ruth is determined to help Dan, but her own complicated feelings and family history cloud her judgement--and professional boundaries, once inviolable, are transgressed. When events spiral out of control, Ruth must confront the unthinkable and reckon with those who truly matter in her life. Deeply insightful, with riveting twists and turns, A Good Enough Mother is a brilliant and heartfelt exploration of the responsibilities and limitations of motherhood.

Feeding My Mother written by Jann Arden and has been published by Random House Canada this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-21 with Family & Relationships categories.

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER Based on her hugely popular Facebook posts and Instagram photos, Feeding My Mother is a frank, funny, inspirational and piercingly honest account of the transformation in Jann Arden's life that has turned her into the primary "parent" to her mom, who is in the grip of Alzheimer's. Jann Arden moved in to a house just across the way from her parents in rural Alberta to be close to them but also so they could be her refuge from the demands of the music business and a performing career. Funny how time works. Since her dad died in 2015, Jann cooks for her mom five or six times a week. Her mom finds comfort in her daughter's kitchen, not just in the delicious food but also just sitting with her as she cooks. And Jann finds some peace in caring for her mom, even as her mom slowly becomes a stranger. "If you told me two years ago that I'd be here," Jann writes, "I wouldn't have believed it. And yet we still fall into so much laughter, feel so much insane gladness and joy. It's such a contrast from one minute to the next and it teaches me constantly: it makes me stronger and more humble and more empathetic and caring and kind." The many people who are dealing with a loved one who is losing it will find inspiration and strength in Jann's wholehearted, loving response and her totally Jann take on the upside-down world of a daughter mothering her mother. Feeding My Mother is one heck of an affirmation that life just keeps on keeping on, and a wonderful example of how you have to roll with it.
