The debut novel from Andrew McCarthy—actor, director, and bestselling author of Brat: An 80s Story—is a powerful story about family secrets, first love, the limits of forgiveness, and finding your way in the world. When fifteen-year-old Lucy Willows discovers that her father has a secret child from a brief affair, she begins to question everything she thinks she knows about her family. How could her father have betrayed them like this? How could her mother forgive him? And why isn’t her sister rocked by the news the way Lucy is? Lucy can’t bring herself to tell her friends, and when she tries to confide in her boyfriend, he doesn’t understand. Fed up with everyone around her and desperate for answers, Lucy runs away to Maine—the home of her mysteriously estranged grandfather—to get to the bottom of her family’s secrets and lies.

This book is all about and is dedicated to a little handicapped boy who was confined to his wheelchair his whole life. The little boys grandmother brought him in to my little store to introduce him to me. The little boy could not talk. He communicated by flapping his hands and smiling from ear to ear. He was an amazing young man. When he smiled, it was contagious. His smile lit up the whole world. What inspired me most was how he flapped his hands, as if he wanted to just fly away. Thus, I came up with the book title Sometimes, Just Fly Away. The beginning of the book is about him. The rest of the book features small poems, thoughts, and stories about real things in life that help mold us all into being and doing the best that we can with the means that we all have.

Celebrity news reporter and presenter, Tully Hart, has hit rock bottom. Kate Ryan had been her best friend for more than thirty years. They’d lived, laughed, danced and cried together. Kate had been her anchor, and now Tully was cast adrift – not knowing how she was going to survive. Kate’s daughter, Marah, was only sixteen years old when her mother died. Consumed with guilt over the fights they’d had during the last months of Kate’s life, Marah runs away and becomes a drop-out in society, maintaining no contact with her family. Tully’s mother, Cloud, a child of the Sixties, has lived a world of her own dependent on drugs for most of her adult life. She now wants to prove that she can help her daughter. But what will it take for Tully to forgive? And then something momentous happens which causes each one of them to realize what they’ve done, and what they have become.

The incredible true story of one woman's journey to relocate the place inside herself where strength, hope, and personal truth reside. After Hurricane Katrina, Alice Anderson has returned home to assess the damage to her beloved Mississippi coastline and the once-immaculate home she’d carefully cultivated for her husband, Dr. Liam Rivers, one of the community's highly respected doctors. But in the wake of this natural disaster, a more terrifying challenge emerges as Liam’s mental health spirals out of control, culminating in a violent attack at knifepoint, from which Alice is saved by their three-year-old son. Afraid for her life, she flees with her children. What ensues is an epic battle—emotional, psychological, spiritual, and legal—for her children’s welfare, for self-preservation, and ultimately for redemption. It’s an unrelenting battle that persists even as life goes on, finally coming full circle when the same son who saved Alice ten years before endures an eerily-familiar violent encounter at his father’s hands. Yet even as she confronts the harsh realities of high-powered Southern lawyers and an inadequate legal system, Alice forges a new life with her blossoming children and an ultimate reclamation of her true self.
