Oblivious of the independent, cruel plans time had for them, the un-informed kids, Kalindi and Savitri, dreamt of an unpunctuated future together where rainbows abound. “I don’t mind a husband who doesn’t die,” Savitri confided in Kalindi. “Me neither,” Kalindi dittoed, and before leaving for her boarding school, she promised Savitri to write to her regularly and come back for her with a firm, actionable plan. Time, busy dotting the ‘Is and crossing the ‘Ts, seemed to have fallen in love with its cruel plan and was impatient to unfurl it without further ado. Much before the kids could exchange their first letter, their dream world somersaulted, crashed and was dispatched to unforeseen, deep and dark unrelenting confines of earth, personally guarded by Yama. Kalindi did come back but without a plan as she had promised earlier. Protected by her mother’s love shield, Kalindi returned to her school without saying goodbye, and buried herself in her books, charting a path of high education and a career in a top consulting firm in America, earning big dollars, and didn’t look back. Recently, after repeated cajoling from her father, she moved back to India and travelled to Benaras. The visit, to her, was a shock beyond her, and all she wanted to do was run away from Benaras as fast as she could. But could she?

There are many different ways in which minority religions and counselling may interact. In some cases there can be antagonism between counselling services and minority religions, with each suspecting they are ideologically threatened by the other, but it can be argued that the most common relationship is one of ignorance – mental health professionals do not pay much attention to religion and often do not ask or consider their client’s religious affiliation. To date, the understanding of this relationship has focused on the ‘anti-cult movement’ and the perceived need for members of minority religions to undergo some form of ‘exit counselling’. In line with the series, this volume takes a non-judgemental approach and instead highlights the variety of issues, religious groups and counselling approaches that are relevant at the interface between minority religion and counselling. The volume is divided into four parts: Part I offers perspectives on counselling from different professions; Part II offers chapters from the field leaders directly involved in counselling former members of minority religions; Part III offers unique personal accounts by members and former members of a number of different new religions; while Part IV offers chapters on some of the most pertinent current issues in the counselling/minority religions fields, written by new and established academics. In every section, the volume seeks to explore different permutations of the counsellor-client relationship when religious identities are taken into account. This includes not only ‘secular’ therapists counselling former members of religion, but the complexities of the former member turned counsellor, as well as counselling practised both within religious movements and by religious movements that offer counselling services to the ‘outside’ world.

Google continued to be ahead of the libraries because to new internet technology. Even now, this problem still exists. However, given this context, libraries and companies that provide library systems have made several efforts to enhance the search capabilities for libraries using the new Google-like discovery tools. The novel is a scathing attack on the hypocritical cultural and traditional dogmas of the society. The protagonist of the novel is a married woman who rebels against the norms of the society. After four years of being married and after having served her family with the best of her capacity, she takes a U-turn in her relationships and defies them as it brought to her only a sense of servile existence. She attempts to rise above the menial existence and she tries to assert for an identity beyond the home hemisphere. Her attempts not only lead her to a struggle for ambitious goals but she also embarks on a journey of lust and self-realization. She enters into a relationship with another man and ironically, the illegitimate relationship creates in her a sense of security, identity and independence. This novel is entirely fictitious and it depicts the struggle of any woman in all her plural existence in any set society. The protagonist is un-named solely for the reason that she represents the universal search for identity among women-kind.

“Women always face violence from men. Equality is only preached, but not put into practice. Dalit women face more violence every day, and they will continue to do so until society changes and accepts them as equals.” — Bharati from Andra Pradesh The right to equality regardless of gender and caste is a fundamental right in India. However, the Indian government has acknowledged that institutional forces arraigned against this right are powerful and shape people’s mindsets to accept pervasive gender and caste inequality. This is no more apparent than when one visits Dalit women living in their caste-segregated localities. Vulnerably positioned at the bottom of India’s gender, caste and class hierarchies, Dalit women experience the outcome of severely imbalanced social, economic and political power equations in terms of endemic caste-class-gender discrimination and violence. This study presents an analytical overview of the complexities of systemic violence that Dalit women face through an analysis of 500 Dalit women’s narratives across four states. Excerpts of these narratives are utilised to illustrate the wider trends and patterns of different manifestations of violence against Dalit women. Published by Zubaan.
