De um lado o nome mais importante do Espiritismo no Brasil, talvez o espírita mais importante do século XX. Bondade e humildade fi zeram de Francisco Cândido Xavier uma fi gura respeitada por praticamente todos os seguimentos religiosos. Do outro lado vemos o codifi cador do Espiritismo, uma fi gura de inteligência absurda e pulso fi rme diante da nova fi losofi a que tomava forma em Paris. A notoriedade de Chico é inegável, de tal forma que muitos afi rmam que ele seja o próprio Allan Kardec reencarnado. Embora sejam personalidades bastante diferentes. Amigo Paulo: De início devo agradecer a honra que me concede de prefaciar obra tão bem estruturada, por isso mesmo, instrutiva. Seu livro, na minha opinião, será um marco na literatura espírita. Principalmente porque vem para iluminar a obscura e polêmica questão sobre as identidades de dois Espíritos que eu trago com muito carinho em meu coração: Kardec e o Chico. Quando iniciei a ler as primeiras palavras, algo em minha alma se agitou e foi com grande alegria e lucro espiritual que deixei meus outros quefazeres, para mergulhar em tão instrutiva, sólida e esclarecedora leitura. De fato, li com cuidado redobrado em cinco dias das minhas horas disponíveis, tarefa que, via de regra, demandaria no mínimo um mês. Se algum dia puder conte-me, a título de novo aprendizado para mim, quanto tempo você demandou nessa bela construção. Quais foram suas ideias iniciais, a progressão delas à medida que a obra prosperava, sensações de acompanhamento espiritual… Com a pequena experiência que Jesus permitiu-me em livros, estimo que foram multiplicados anos… Mas valeu a pena, esteja certo. Do mais alto, para mim com toda certeza, Instrutores Invisíveis terão acompanhado-o pari passu, do que resultou que se sua obra foi escrita a duas mãos físicas, houve outras incontáveis, de anônimo arrimo espiritual, quão elevado, quanto constante. Seu livro radiografa, ou melhor, “tomografa” de forma cristalina e com toda a plenitude o porquê de Kardec não ser o Chico! Você teve a eficiência dos sensatos, a energia dos experientes, descerrando novas janelas para os contraditórios que se concretaram no enganoso discurso da “certeza absoluta”, certamente proferido por incautos do bom senso, fixados em achismos. Via de regra, tolos. Muitos dos que se arvoram como donos da verdade, e proferem saber quem foi quem, alardeando cultura, afirmações e informações privilegiadas, esquecem-se de que a especialidade da fama é construir pedestais para a vaidade, na areia movediça… Ao elaborar este prefácio contemplei deixá-lo econômico, a benefício dos leitores, de forma que o livro do amigo Paulo, pleno de lógica, bom senso e razão traga para eles aquilo que me proporcionou: maiores e mais completos conhecimentos da vida tão profícua de dois missionários, verdadeiros gigantes da dedicação à causa da Doutrina dos Espíritos: Kardec e Chico Xavier. Com efeito, Kardec, assessorado por Inteligências Siderais, foi o mestre de obras do Edifício “Espiritismo”, que o Espírito Verdade e sua égide de Iluminados o encarregaram de edificar, a partir do sublime alicerce e muito da obra acima. Sou dos que pensam que Chico Xavier, em complemento e da mesma forma, captando e interpretando lições superiores trazidas por outros Espíritos elevados, foi o continuador de sequenciar essa iluminada obra, que aliás, tem projeção infinita de cada vez mais se elevar, banhando a humanidade terrena com ensinamentos emanados da Suprema Inteligência e Causa Primeira de Todas as Coisas: DEUS – o Criador. Por delegação divina, o Mestre Jesus foi e é o arquiteto desse alcandorado edifício, a partir da “fase Kardec”, dando continuidade na “fase Chico Xavier”, cada um no tempo certo do aporte no planeta de tão magistral e dadivosa construção. De justiça e inescapável será elevar o pensamento a Deus, em gratidão pelas bênçãos da Terceira Revelação, obra que contou com “Os Espíritos do Senhor, que são as virtudes dos Céus, qual imenso exército que se movimenta ao receber as ordens do seu comando, espalham-se por toda a superfície da Terra e, semelhantes a estrelas cadentes, vêm iluminar os caminhos e abrir os olhos aos cegos” (abertura do prefácio de “O Evangelho Segundo o Espiritismo”). Seguramente, Kardec e Chico perfilam-se nesse “imenso exército”. Talvez seja pouco afirmar que Kardec e Chico, no cumprimento de tão alta missão agiram com fidelidade à causa do bem. Tenho para mim que cada um, a seu tempo, agiu com Amor, do que faz prova o sublime teor do trabalho de ambos, que não possibilita a quem quer seja estabelecer a mesma autoria, conquanto da soma dos dois resulta bem incomparável à Humanidade. Praza aos Céus que aqueles que creem Kardec ser o Chico tenham a humildade de ler seu livro. Em fatos quetais, não padece dúvida de que muitos mudarão de ideia, ante novas luzes acesas pelas reflexões e provas que você, denodadamente, coletou. Nenhum ser humano é perfeito! E por isso, é sem o menor respingo de duelo, senão sim de fraternidade, que espero seja este livro um novo farol iluminando a todos nós. Deus conhece a intenção dos Seus filhos e dotou-nos de inteligência, ferramenta abençoada que clareará os pensamentos equivocados. Caro amigo Paulo: Jesus é o nosso Divino Amigo e Mestre Excelso, pelo que há de definir os rumos do seu livro. Ore e confie! Esse trabalho recebeu o primeiro lugar no prêmio Sandra Jatahy Pesavento do GT de História Cultural da ANPUH. Desde a introdução o autor deixa claro que não pretende discutir o Espiritismo do ponto de vista teológico. É na história do livro e da leitura que inscreve sua investigação. Se para os leitores a autoria é do espírito, a sua problemática é de ordem historiográfica ao pensar a psicografia como uma realidade cultural na qual há a “invenção” dos espíritos autores e a criação de uma imagem autoral que fundam um determinado pacto de leitura. André Seal se debruça sobre os primeiros anos da vida literária de Chico Xavier (1931-1938). Em um primeiro recorte que vai de 1931 até 1934 se debruça sobre os escritos inicias do médium. É quando se estabelece no mercado editorial espírita, mas longe do sucesso de massa que viria a conhecer. O período posterior é dedicado ao estudo da criação dos espíritos autores. Em cada um desses momentos, Chico Xavier é situado dentro das matrizes literárias do Espiritismo no Brasil. Ao mesmo tempo, deixa-se entrever como estas foram apropriadas e mesmo alteradas neste percurso de construção de sua imagem autoral. Ao situar o autor na questão mais ampla da literatura espírita deixa claro que existiram outros projetos literários no país, engendrados coletivamente, e que estes caíram no esquecimento. A psicografia e os espíritos autores definem até os dias de hoje o perfil da escrita espírita. Ao dessacralizar o mito, André Seal faz mais do que um belo, cuidadoso, denso e delicado trabalho de investigação que coloca os estudos sobre a história do livro e da leitura bem como do espiritismo em novas chaves de leitura; ele devolve Chico Xavier ao plano histórico, ao mundo dos homens.
