Juni 1882 als Valentin Ludwig Fey in München) nur den ulkigen Mundart-Komödianten sieht, verkennt ihn. Er war ein vielseitig gebildeter Intellektueller, arbeitete etwa mit Berthold Brecht zusammen, wurde von Kurt Tucholsky, Samuel Beckett und vielen anderen Zeitgenossen hoch geschätzt. – In seinem Werk gehört Valentin zu den originellsten Künstlern, die Deutschland je hervorbracht hat, als bayerischer Dadaist, Sprach-Anarchist mit geradezu philosophischer Wort-Akrobatik, wie es keinen zweiten gab. Neben seiner Bühnenauftritte hatte Valentin zeitweise eine eigene Filmproduktionsfirma und war Darsteller in etwa 40 Kurzfilmen, die nach seinen Sketchen gedreht wurden. Er leitete ein skurriles Nonsense-Museum und betätigte sich als ›Event-Gastronom‹, wie man heute sagen würde. Am 9. Februar 1948 starb er im Alter von 65 Jahren an den Folgen einer Lungenentzündung in seinem Wohnort Planegg bei München. © Redaktion ModerneZeiten, 2019
