Anyone considering a safari but unsure whether such a trip is for them should read the Safari Chronicles. "Knowing what you want out of your safari," says Leo Cyr, "is the first step toward a successful safari. However, if you have never been on safari, how will you know where to go or what to see?"The Cyrs had to answer the same "when-where-what" questions you are likely thinking about today. That is why they wrote Africa Safari Chronicles. Their first priority is to give you the information you need to make informed decisions about safari basics. Then, they help you with the next level of travel challenges like visas, inoculations, luggage, clothing and many other subjects. Their check lists will greatly simplify your preparations. Next, they take you with them on the actual safari. Through their pictures and daily diary you will experience what they experienced on the actual safari. The "Daily Safari Journal with Beth and Leo" chapter will most likely answer most of your questions about what happens on safari. If not, Leo provides his email address so you can submit additional questions. That address is leomcyr@gmail.com.Each Africa Safari Chronicles volume has a chapter with color pictures of the animals and birds you can expect to see when you visit the featured National Parks or Game Reserves. They even pass on the wildlife spotting techniques taught by their safari guides. It is important to understand that several chapters on organization and planning are the same in each Chronicle volume. The advice and check lists presented do not vary appreciably from country to country. If special circumstances need to be addressed, that information is provided in the appropriate volume. There are four volumes of the Africa Safari Chronicles. They are:Volume 1: Remote Tanzanian National Parks of Ruaha, Katavi and Mahale. Volume 2: Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe.Volume 3: TanzaniaVolume 4: Kenya In Volume 1, the Chronicles visit the Remote Tanzanian National Parks of Ruaha, Katavi and Mahale. These Parks are special because all three are among the least visited National Parks in Tanzania. You can be assured you will not be crowded. In fact, you will rarely see another safari vehicle all day, every day. Ruaha is the largest of Tanzania's National Parks. It has one of the densest biomass ratings of any park in Africa. It is big but full of life. Katavi is even more remote. It is said to be the one National Park which has conditions akin to the pristine ecosystem common to most of sub-Saharan Africa 100 years ago. Mahale is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It is like the Garden of Eden. Mahale is home to the "M" Group of chimpanzees. Mahale is one of two places in Tanzania (the other is Gombe Stream) where one can be virtually assured of seeing chimpanzees in the wild.

The History And Traditions Of The Pimbwe written by Seel, Sarah-Jane and has been published by Mkuki na Nyota Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-07 with History categories.

The book presents the history, tradition and culture of a small tribe know as the Pimbwe in Tanzania. It describes the life of the Pimbwe from the pre-colonial era, through the arrival of missionaries, colonisation and post independence, right up to the present day. By reading this book, you will discover the origins of the Pimbwe, their traditions and their culture, which although not differing greatly from those of other African tribes, constitute an intriguing and unique story. In 2008 a group of researchers help a workshop in Mpanda to compile a collection of information and various narrative from Pimbwe elders who maintain and highly honour the Pimbwe communities culture and norms. The researchers subsequently used archival and other published historical materials to ingrate Pimbwe narrative into know historical events. It should be remembered that this book was written with the aim of preserving in written form a history which has been passed down through generations and held in the memories of the elders. It is also hoped that this book will help new generations, particularly of the Pimbwe community, to understand and honour their culture and traditions in a world in which globalisation continuously erodes cultural diversity.

While the national parks and reserves of East Africa are widely known for their rich and abundant wildlife, there is another less celebrated but equally intriguing aspect to them. This book presents a new and exciting angle – the geological highlights of the region. East Africa’s cataclysmic volcanic legacy, caused by rifting of the landmass, has resulted in a rich source of geological wonders. These range from the seemingly endless plains of the Serengeti to the skyscraper walls of extinct calderas and the belching vents of the Nyiragongo Volcano. This handy guide escorts users around all the major – and some minor – parks of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and through the Virunga Mountains along the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Descriptions of each park and its wildlife, both fauna and flora, preface discussion of the geological origins, influences and current conditions. Key geosites in the parks, and how to access them, are indicated. Maps, satellite images and diagrams, along with vivid photography, help to explain the dramatic landforms. For anyone planning a safari to the legendary East African game parks and reserves, this book adds a meaningful new dimension. Sales points: New geological perspective for traditional game parks; Features more than 70 parks and reserves; Reveals the drama of East Africa’s cataclysmic origins; An invaluable resource for tourists, safari goers and park guides.

Tanzania Safari Guide written by Philip Briggs and has been published by Bradt Travel Guides this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-05 with Travel categories.

This new, thoroughly updated ninth edition of Bradt’s Tanzania Safari Guide remains the only practical guidebook to the country that reflects tourism’s shift away from backpackers and budget camping safaris to upper-end and mid-range safaris and beach holidays. Unlike other guidebooks, the main focus is practical information about Tanzania’s peerless collection of national parks, game reserves and other safari destinations, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Ruaha, Katavi, Gombe Stream, Mahale Mountains, and four new national parks designated in 2019, including Nyerere, which encompasses much of the former Selous Game Reserve and is thought Africa’s largest National Park. Every major reserve is given a dedicated chapter detailing its ecology, wildlife, accommodation options, game drives and other activities. Written by acknowledged Africa experts and prolific guidebook writers Philip Briggs and Chris McIntyre, Bradt’s Tanzania Safari Guide also focuses on other popular and off-the-beaten-track tourist attractions, including Mount Kilimanjaro, the ‘Spice Island’ of Zanzibar and the mysterious Kilwa Ruins and Kondoa Rock Art (UNESCO World Heritage Sites often relegated to the small print of other guides). Accommodation listings for the safari destinations are the most detailed and authoritative available, the authors weeding through the ever-growing number of lodges and camps to create a critically selective list of the best properties in every price bracket (upmarket, mid-range and budget). Meanwhile, a 48-page wildlife colour field guide details all species a visitor can expect to find on a safari. Since the mid-1980s, when only basic camping safaris were feasible, Tanzania has grown to be one of Africa’s top safari destinations. This new edition actively responds to this evolution by focusing on the country mainly as a safari and short-stay fly-in holiday destination. It also reflects the growing trend away from large lodges towards small, exclusive eco-friendly camps in remote parts of national parks and bordering community concessions. Beyond spectacular year-round game-viewing , Tanzania is one of Africa’s most varied countries, its long palm-fringed coastline offering post-safari relaxation and complemented by the Great Rift Valley, portions of Africa’s three largest lakes, and impressive mountains. Use this guide to discover everything Tanzania has to offer.
