Longing for God's Closeness: Rediscovering the Beauty of Daily Prayers What does it take to feel closer to Him when our daily prayers seem to falter? *** Oftentimes, there is this distant feeling within us when we meet God in our prayers. And it breaks our heart because we try so hard to connect to Him, yet we are just distracted with the worries of this world. What then can we do, to reawaken this longing for closeness to Him, the longing to rely on His forgiveness and mercy? It is not easy to call upon the heart to be present in prayers. We try our best to connect to Him, but still we find our mind wandering someplace else. Thus, in this book, Ayesha Syahira shares with raw honesty about her reflections on discovering the beauty of prayers through patience, surrendering and hope.

The Makings Of Indonesian Islam written by Michael Laffan and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12 with History categories.

Indonesian Islam is often portrayed as being intrinsically moderate by virtue of the role that mystical Sufism played in shaping its traditions. According to Western observers--from Dutch colonial administrators and orientalist scholars to modern anthropologists such as the late Clifford Geertz--Indonesia's peaceful interpretation of Islam has been perpetually under threat from outside by more violent, intolerant Islamic traditions that were originally imposed by conquering Arab armies. The Makings of Indonesian Islam challenges this widely accepted narrative, offering a more balanced assessment of the intellectual and cultural history of the most populous Muslim nation on Earth. Michael Laffan traces how the popular image of Indonesian Islam was shaped by encounters between colonial Dutch scholars and reformist Islamic thinkers. He shows how Dutch religious preoccupations sometimes echoed Muslim concerns about the relationship between faith and the state, and how Dutch-Islamic discourse throughout the long centuries of European colonialism helped give rise to Indonesia's distinctive national and religious culture. The Makings of Indonesian Islam presents Islamic and colonial history as an integrated whole, revealing the ways our understanding of Indonesian Islam, both past and present, came to be.

Imam Jalal-al-Din al-Suyuti (849-911 AH / 1445-1505 AD) was born, lived, and was buried in Cairo. The ascription 'al-Suyuti' is a reference to Asyut, a town in Upper Egypt from which his family hailed. Known as the 'son of books' from the numerous books he studied and referred to in his works, he could equally be called the 'father of books' because of the many books he produced. From his early years, al-Suyuti devoted his life to learning, reading, writing, and teaching - holding notable positions in the city of Cairo at a time when it was the center of Islamic learning par excellence. He was an outstanding scholar, second to none in the field of Qur'anic Sciences ('Ulum Al-Qur'an) in which he produced many well-known works. However, being the all-round scholar that he was, his contributions covered almost all the fields of Arabic, the Qur'an, the Traditions (hadith), and history. His works were of such superb quality that they earned him the respect of his generation and the generations that followed, up to the present day. Most important of these, in the field of Qur'anic Sciences, was his Al-Itqan. Al-Itqan is perhaps the most outstanding work of its kind in the field of Qur'anic Sciences. Exhaustive in its sources and its subjects, thoughtfully and lucidly written, the work is also well arranged. Readers will be taken by the depth, breadth, scope, and mastery of the author while noting how much Muslim scholars have devoted to the study of the Qur'an and how varied and diverse were the fields in which those studies were made. The work found its way to many circles both near and far in the Islamic world. The translation presented here is of a publication of four volumes published in 1387 AH (1967 AD). Now in paperback, this book is the translation of the first volume. It is a must to the specialist of Qur'anic Studies and is highly recommended to the initiate.

Fireflies In Manhattan written by Umar Kayam and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Fiction categories.

Born in Ngawi, East Java, in 1932, Umar Kayam obtained his masters degree from New York University and his doctoral degree from Cornell University. It was there, in New York, where he began to hone his literary skills. The publication of his first collection of short stories, A Thousand Fireflies in Manhattan, in 1972, gained him national fame as a short story writer. The light and semi-ironic tone of Kayam's "New York stories," in which the author viewed an archetypal cast of New York characters through the lens of a nai ve Indonesian outsider vanished completely in the next phase of the author's career when he dealt with the impact of the incarceration and killings of hundreds of thousands of Communists or alleged Communists that took place after the rise of Soeharto's militaristic regime. Kayam's highly nuanced portraits of the innocent victims of "1965" again earned him critical acclaim. Kayam was a regular contributor to the literary column of "Kompas," the nation's largest newspaper, and during the third and final stage of the author's literary career, it became an almost annual event for him to contribute a story about Lebaran, the holiday that marks the end of the Muslim month of fasting, a time when millions of Indonesians who have moved from the communities where they were born attempt against numerous odds to return home. The stories produced by Kayam during the three stages of his literary career vary greatly in subject matter and tone. What binds them together is that in each and every one, one hears is the voice of the common man.

"Alif had never set foot outside of West Sumatra. He passed his childhood days searching for fallen durian fruit in the jungle, playing soccer on rice paddies, and swimming in the blue waters of Lake Maninjau. His mother wants him to attend an Islamic boarding school, a pesantren, while he dreams of public high school. Halfheartedly, he follows his mother’s wishes. He finds himself on a grueling three-day bus ride from Sumatra to Madani Pesantren (MP) in a remote village on Java. On his first day at MP, Alif is captivated by the powerful phrase man jadda wajada. He who gives his all will surely succeed. United by punishment, he quickly becomes friends with five boys from across the archipelago, and together they become known as the Fellowship of the Manara. Beneath the mosque’s minaret, the boys gaze at the clouds on the horizon, seeing in them their individual dreams of far-away lands, like America and Europe. Where would these dreams take them? They didn’t know. What they did know was: never underestimate dreams, no matter how high they may be. God truly is The Listener. The Land of Five Towers is the first book in a trilogy written by A. Fuadi—a former TEMPO & VOA reporter, photography buff, and a social entrepreneur. He went to George Washington University and Royal Holloway, University of London for his masters. A portion of the royalties from the trilogy are intended to build Komunitas Menara, a volunteer-based social organization which aims to provide free schools, libraries, clinics and soup kitchens for the less fortunate.
