EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Unless you want your new Staffie to gnaw on everything in sight, a number of durable chew toys are an absolute must for this breed. They have a strong chewing drive and cannot be trained to just not chew at all. Braided rope toys are an excellent choice and stand up well to continuous use. Do not give weak toys to Staffordshire Bull Terriers, or they will quickly have them chewed to pieces. These pieces present a significant choking hazard and should be avoided at all times. Socializing Your Staffordshire Bull Terrier Introducing your Staffie to a wide range of other people and animals is important in raising a well-rounded and social animal. When introducing your dog to new people, make sure he is in a calm state. Have him sit and wait on your command before being allowed to approach. Walk over to the guest with your dog and allow him to sniff and greet your visitor. Do not allow any jumping or overly excited behavior. If your dog is getting too riled up, remove him from the situation and have him remain in a seated or lying position until he has returned to a calm state.
