"Boundless Minds & Moving Bodies presents an intimate visual journey through the early collaborations between Keith Haring, Muna Tseng and Tseng Kwong Chi. It offers a unique and colourful prism of the three friends in their orbits, expressing themselves through different disciplinary languages: drawing, dance and photography. Their work and interactions reveal a shared performative energy of the joys of experimenting, openness, exchange and social engagement. Together and independently, they were immersed in and contributors to the bustling and vibrant cultural downtown scene. This book features the 1982 collaboration by Keith Haring to create the set for choreographer Muna Tseng drawing a visuals score for her performance piece Epochal Songs. Muna's brother, conceptual photographer Tseng Kwong Chi, was a close friend and collaborator with Keith. Tseng's photographs of Haring's work in the subways, on the streets and during public performances continue to make them accessible to a audiences across the globe. Next to the work of Keith and Muna, the publication introduces Tseng Kwong Chi's own body of seminal work: the famous self-portrait series, East Meets West, while visiting many iconic tourist sites across the world during his travels together with Haring"--Page 4 of cover.

This handsome volume features 100 works from Tseng Kwong Chi's pioneering series of large-scale black-and-white self-portraits, produced from 1979 to 1989, many of which have never been published. The son of exiled Chinese nationalists, Kwong Chi was part of a 1980s New York circle that included Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf and Cindy Sherman. His ironic portraits of himself posed in a Mao suit--with a visitor badge reading SLUTFORART in front of American tourist destinations--found their way to Communist China through Western magazines smuggled into the country in the 1980s, greatly influencing China's avant-garde. Ann Magnuson, a ubiquitous downtown performer in the 80s, mused, "Just who is this visitor from that forbidden land, who is both tasting the fruits of American freedom and slyly satirizing our home of the brave?"

An exploration of the personal and artistic connections between two icons of twentieth-century art Keith Haring (1958–1990) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) changed the art world of the 1980s through their idiosyncratic imagery, radical ideas, and complex sociopolitical commentary. Each artist invented a distinct visual language, employing signs, symbols, and words to convey strong messages in unconventional ways, and each left an indelible legacy that remains a force in contemporary visual and popular culture. Offering fascinating new insights into the artists’ work, Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat reveals the many intersections among Haring and Basquiat’s lives, ideas, and practices. This lavishly illustrated volume brings together more than two hundred images—works created in public spaces, paintings, sculptures, objects, works on paper, photographs, and more. These rich visuals are accompanied by essays and interviews from renowned scholars, artists, and art critics, exploring the reach and range of Haring and Basquiat’s influence. Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat provides a valuable look at two artistic peers and boundary breakers whose tragically short but prolific careers left their marks on the art world and beyond. The Artist S Estate written by Dr. Loretta Würtenberger and has been published by Hatje Cantz Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-24 with Art categories.

Andy Warhol bequeathed us the words "Death can really make you look like a star." But death per se is not a catalyst for the relevance of an artist. What is of crucial importance is the proper management structure for the posthumous preservation and development of an artistic estate. The handbook by Loretta Würtenberger presents the possible legal framework, appropriate financing models, as well as the proper handling of the market, museums, and academia. Her business, Fine Art Partners, has advised artists and artists' estates for many years in their structuring and development of estate concepts as well as in operative questions. Based on numerous international examples, the author explains the different alternatives for maintaining an artist's estate and makes recommendations on how to ideally handle work, archives, and mementos following the death of an artist.

Keith Haring S Line written by Ricardo Montez and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-10 with Art categories.

In the thirty years since his death, Keith Haring—a central presence on the New York downtown scene of the 1980s—has remained one of the most popular figures in contemporary American art. In one of the first book-length treatments of Haring’s artistry, Ricardo Montez traces the drawn and painted line that was at the center of Haring’s artistic practice and with which the artist marked canvases, subway walls, and even human flesh. Keith Haring’s Line unites performance studies, critical race studies, and queer theory in an exploration of cross-racial desire in Haring’s life and art. Examining Haring’s engagements with artists such as dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones, graffiti artist LA II, and iconic superstar Grace Jones, Montez confronts Haring’s messy relationships to race-making and racial imaginaries, highlighting scenes of complicity in order to trouble both the positive connotations of inter-racial artistic collaboration and the limited framework of appropriation.
