This book, Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir Munshi, is the most comprehensive, multi-disciplinary studies on Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir, widely known as Munshi Abdullah (1796-1854). He was a prominent literary figure and thinker in the Malay world in the 19th century and was also an early 'pioneer' of Singapore.The author, Professor Hadijah Rahmat, has spent more than 25 years studying Munshi Abdullah since her PhD studies in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, in 1992 to date. Dari segi ekonomi, kemerosotan itu telah membawa kejatuhan nilai sewa,ruang lantai perniagaan dan kehilangan pekerjaan serta pendapatan. mplikasinya berlakulah masalah penghijrahan keluar dan jurang sosial. Penghijrahan keluar golongan tua dan kanak-kanak memonopoli kawasan bersejarah ini. Keadaan atau arah aliran ini mempunyai kesan negatif terhadap pembangunan atau pertumbuhan ekonomi masa hadapan kawasan kajian. Selaras dengan kepentingan warisan sejarah dan budaya serta juga fungsinya sebagai pusat aktiviti ekonomi maka satu garispanduan pembangunan yang berasaskan kepada konsep pemeliharaan bandar digariskan untuk menyeimbangkan keperluan pertumbuhan ekonomi dan pengekalan warisan sejarah. Cadangan dan garispanduan pembangunan dapat dilaksanakan melalui tiga strategi pembangunan yang dikenalpasti iaitu pengekalan, pembaikan dan pembangunan semula.
