Sacred Angkor written by Vittorio Roveda and has been published by Weatherhill, Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Art categories.

The Khmer empire, which at its height covered the whole of present-day Cambodia and most of Thailand, flourished over 500 years. At its heart was Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world, built during the reign of the Khmer king Suryavarman II, in the first half of the twelfth century. The temple was dedicated to Vishnu, and its magnificent architecture mirrored in microcosm the entire Hindu universe. To enhance its sacred nature, over 600 meters of bas-reliefs were carved on the walls of the third enclosure illustrating battles and processions, Heavens and Hells and the creation myth. Following the great success of Vittorio Roveda's Khmer Mythology , which unraveled the stories and significance of the relief carvings of numerous Khmer, the author returns to Angkor Wat to examine the magnificent carvings of the long galleries, the corner pavilions, pediments, lintels, as well as the lesser-known sculpted tapestry reliefs. The gradual reading of the reliefs as pages of an ancient book unravel the religious and secular symbolism with which Angkor Wat was imbued by the Khmers in the XII century. Aided by the photography of Jaroslav Poncar, Vittorio Roveda reveals the iconographic intricacies of this magnificent temple as never before.

Dance Of Life written by Julie B. Mehta and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Cambodia categories.

The legacy of Khmer culture and folklore much of it relayed through dance is over 1,000 years old. Nearly destroyed during the genocidal rule of the Khmer Rouge (1975-79), when ninety percent of the Cambodian dancers, along with other creative artists and intellectuals were murdered mercilessly, this art form is currently enjoying a spirited revival. This well-researched work, written with refreshing clarity, is the result of the author's passionate interest in the historical and cross-cultural links this art form has shared with India, Java and the rest of Southeast Asia for many centuries. A decade of detailed study of the art form, a deep understanding of its ancient religious, social and cultural ethos, and a first-hand approach with fascinating anecdotes makes this a highly readable story about the Khmer Culture expressed through Classic dance.

Mrenh Gongveal: Chasing the Elves of the Khmer is a photo essay that delves into a common, but lesser understood, belief of the Cambodians. While learning about the culture and customs of Cambodia, Keith Kelly's adopted home of 10 years, he was especially fascinated by their folklore. One particular type of shrine dedicated to the Mrenh Gongveal, Elves of the Khmer, caught his imagination. As a personal project he started documenting the more interesting "houses" he came across during his travels. While talking to people, most could give little explanation for the houses other than they "brought luck." Wanting to know more lead the author upon a 5 year journey collecting photos and information, which is presented in this book.
