Dining together is a great way to foster a relationship, but many vegans find themselves in conflict with partners, family members, or friends who don t share their dietary persuasion. If those vegans are lucky, their loved ones will be happy to share meatless dishes and won't mind postponing a steak or chicken dinner until they eat out. More often than not, however, both vegans and meat eaters are forced to accommodate each other in the confines of the same kitchen. The emotions stirred by their contrary diets can heat that kitchen to the boiling point. Enter cookbook author, fitness trainer, and kitchen referee Ellen Jaffe Jones. With an abundance of tips for dealing with the many common food fights that arise in such living arrangements, Ellen dishes up sage advice for how to restore harmony, peace, and joy in divergent food relationships. Her mouthwatering recipes include delicious vegan alternatives to conventional dishes typically based on meat or dairy products. This is hearty fare even a diehard carnivore will love. Ellen also provides recipes for versatile meatless main dishes that nonvegan diners can add meat to or enjoy as side dishes. Ellen offers anecdotes and coping ideas gleaned from her cooking classes and social media groups, and from other vegans who have spent years living in a kitchen divided. She demonstrates that it's not only possible to survive but thrive when a challenging living arrangements puts different eaters at odds.

The Edible Monument written by Marcia Reed and has been published by Getty Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-13 with Art categories.

The Edible Monument considers the elaborate architecture, sculpture, and floats made of food that were designed for court and civic celebrations in early modern Europe. These include popular festivals such as Carnival and the Italian Cuccagna. Like illuminations and fireworks, ephemeral artworks made of food were not well documented and were challenging to describe because they were perishable and thus quickly consumed or destroyed. In times before photography and cookbooks, there were neither literary models nor a repertoire of conventional images for how food and its preparation should be explained or depicted. Although made for consumption, food could also be a work of art, both as a special attraction and as an expression of power. Formal occasions and spontaneous celebrations drew communities together, while special foods and seasonal menus revived ancient legends, evoking memories and recalling shared histories, values, and tastes. Drawing on books, prints, and scrolls that document festival arts, elaborate banquets, and street feasts, the essays in this volume examine the mythic themes and personas employed to honor and celebrate rulers; the methods, materials, and wares used to prepare, depict, and serve food; and how foods such as sugar were transformed to express political goals or accomplishments. This book is published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Getty Research Institute from October 13, 2015, to March 23, 2016.

“Great book. Didn’t want to put it down.” “An intense read.” There’s a price to pay for loyalty When everyone else wants to bend the rules The men of the tribe have made their home in the empty buildings at the border, far from the demands and ruthless laws of those who control the city. Their only guidance is a doctrine that keeps them grounded, free from emotional disruption and at peace. At least, that was how it was meant to be… With their founder gone, the responsibility of the tribe falls to Jacob. Fiercely loyal to his predecessor he promises to care for its members, their values and the life they’ve created. But Jacob is not a natural leader, and when new deadly threats dog the city’s backstreets, some of the men are open to flexing the doctrine to serve the fallout – even if it means defying their new mentor. As tensions ripple through the group, Jacob feels the clutches of the city grip tighter than ever before. Not only in the dangers it might inflict at any moment, but in the temptations it offers, ones he’d thought he had left behind. Fearing he is losing control of the tribe entrusted to him, Jacob is pushed toward despair and the person he used to be… And when his dark past comes back to haunt him, he seizes it with both hands. Exposed is the dark and emotionally compelling story of a city divided, and the second book in the Hidden Sanctuary series
