Kielitaiturin kauneimmat runot. Otto Mannisen (s. 1872-1950) runot kuuluvat suomalaisen runouden kestävimpään, kiveen uurrettuun perustaan. "Yli soljuvan veen ne sousi, ne aallon ulpuina ui, kun aurinko nuorna nousi, yöt pohjan kun punastui" Kiveen uursi -runovalikoima sisältää Otto Mannisen aikaa uhmannutta lyriikkaa. Painokkaimmin on mukana hänen esikoiskokoelmansa Säkeitä (1905). Vuonna 2022 julkaistavan valikoiman runot kunnioittavat Mannisen syntymän 150-vuotisjuhlaa. Runoja leimaavat tiivis, musiikillinen muoto ja vähässä paljon ilmaiseva sanonta. Inspiraation antajana on haihtuva, tavoittamaton kauneus ja mausteena satiiri. Otto Manninen (1872-1950) julkaisi suurten käännöstöiden, toimitustöiden ja yliopistolehtorin viran ohella neljä runokokoelmaa. Yhdessä Eino Leinon kanssa, osin yhteistyössäkin, nuori Otto Manninen uudisti olennaisella tavalla suomalaista runoilmaisua ja loi pohjaa sen kehitykselle. Hänen suomennostöillään on klassikon asema. Mannisen valittujen runojen toimittaja Tellervo Krogerus (s. 1944) on filosofian tohtori ja dosentti. Hän on toiminut muun muassa kirjallisuuden professorina Joensuun yliopistossa sekä eri tehtävissä Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seurassa.
