Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Romanistik - Lateinamerikanische Philologie, Note: 1,0, Universität Rostock (Romanistik), Veranstaltung: Cuba - cultura y sociedad, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Kuba, als einziges sozialistisches Land in Lateinamerika, ist seit der Machtübernahme durch Fidel Castro im Jahr 1959 und dem Beginn der Revolution immer wieder in den Fokus von politischem Weltinteresse sowie insbesondere von Menschenorganisationen geraten. Die Grundforderungen der von Castro eingeleiteten Revolution lagen in der Erzielung einer nationalen Unabhängigkeit, der Selbstbestimmung und einer sozial nachhaltigen Entwicklung. Die Umsetzung dieser Anstrebungen hatte allerdings unter anderem die systematische Bildung einer geschlossenen und kontrollierten Gesellschaft zur Folge. Schaut man sich einmal die kubanische Flagge an, erkennt man ein rotes, gleichschenkliges Dreieck mit einem weißen fünfzackigen Stern sowie fünf Querstreifen in Blau und Weiß. Das rote Dreieck steht hierbei für die drei Werte Freiheit, Brüderlichkeit und Gleichheit und darüber hinaus für das geflossene Blut im Unabhängigkeitskampf. Doch inwiefern können nun diese drei Grundwerte mit einer vom Staat überwachten Gesellschaft assoziiert werden? Ist es den Kubanern wirklich gewährt, ein freies Leben zu führen mit all den dazugehörigen Aspekten, die allgemein unter Freiheit verstanden werden? Die Auseinandersetzung mit dieser kritischen Frage soll Hauptgegenstand dieser Hausarbeit sein. Ziel ist es, verschiedene Bereiche des kubanischen Lebens zu betrachten und zu analysieren. Dafür werde ich zu Beginn die Definitionen von Freiheit und Gleichheit kurz anführen, um dann im Folgenden die Lebensweise auf Kuba anhand dieser Begriffserklärungen bewerten zu können. Zudem werde ich versuchen, verschiedene Sichtweisen hinsichtlich dieser Thematik darzustellen. So werde ich zum einen beschreiben, wie die Kubaner selbst ihre derzeitige Situation erleben und meistern und zum anderen darlegen

This book is a political biography of Arkadij Maksimovich Maslow (1891-1941), a German Communist politician and later a dissident and opponent to Stalin. Together with his political and common-law marriage partner, Ruth Fischer, Maslow briefly led the Communist Party of Germany, the KPD, and brought about its submission to Moscow. Afterwards Fischer and Maslow were removed from the KPD leadership in the fall of 1925 and expelled from the party a year later. Henceforth they both lived as communist outsiders—persecuted by both Hitler and Stalin. Maslow escaped to Cuba via France and Portugal and was murdered under dubious circumstances in Havana in November 1941. He died as a communist dissident committed to the cause of a radical-socialist labor movement that lay in ruins. Kessler considers Maslow's role in pivotal events such as the Bolshevik Revolution, in Soviet revolutionary parties and organizations, through to the rise of Stalinism and Cold War anti-communism. What results is a deep dive into the life of a key yet understudied figure in dissident communism.

Building on the new critical historiography about the evolution of the European state, the book analyses how administrators, scientists, popular publicists and other actors tried to redefine the realms of state action in the "Sattelzeit" (Koselleck). By focussing on the specific strategies of these actors and on the transnational circulation and dissemination of state related knowledge itself, the contributors of the book highlight the fluidity and the interconnections of the European debate in the crucial period of the development of the modern nation-state and its administration. They study the common European features of the evolution of a new type of statehood built upon multiple circulations and transfers that forged administrative practices in the different fields of state action.
