Sebastian Frericks examines, based on a qualitative content analysis, the factors that lead large German listed companies to downfall. He finds factors and motives uncaredfor as well as new interrelations between variables that can be used to develop a future-looking risk sensitivity based on a going-concern-principle. Therefore, he first works out latent factors that are primarily responsible for not preventing a firm from losing its independency. In a second step the motives of sellers in a company sale process are examined. Die Europäische Union (EU) galt lange Jahre als unveränderlicher Bestandteil unseres Lebens und unserer Weltordnung nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Sicherlich, die EU hat sich verändert: die Integration hat sich vertieft, Kompetenzen wurden dazugewonnen und ausgestaltet, auch die Anzahl der Mitglieder wurde größer. Am 23. Juni 2016 kam es jedoch zu einer der größten negativen Veränderungen in der Geschichte der EU. Das Vereinigte Königreich schuf den Präzedenzfall und wurde zum ersten Mitglied, das sich für einen Austritt aus der Union entschied. Seitdem regieren geordnete Konfusion und Zweifel. In Großbritannien bekriegen sich die "Brexiters" und die "Remainers" nach wie vor in den Medien. In anderen Ländern wird mit dem Austritt aus der Union als Wahlversprechen kokettiert. Jeder stellt sich die Frage: wie geht es weiter mit der Union? Nach wie vor gibt es Politiker und Bürger, die an die EU als eine Quelle der Stabilität glauben, aber ihre Anzahl ist geschrumpft. In den Gründerstaaten selbst gibt es Europaskepsis. Geert Wilders in den Niederlanden und Marine Le Pen in Frankreich gehören zu einer grenzüberschreitenden Strömung von Europaskeptikern, gar Europagegnern, die die Institution mitsamt allen Errungenschaften und auch Problemen in Frage stellen. Dies ist ein gefährlicher Trend: wenn führende Mitglieder der Gesellschaft das Vertrauen verlieren, was geschieht dann mit den "Otto-Normal-Verbrauchern"? Die vielleicht wichtigste Frage, die man sich stellen sollte, ist aber diese: was ist der raison d'ètre der EU? In der Vergangenheit wurde die Antwort darauf durch die Erinnerung an den Zweiten Weltkrieg bestimmt; diese Erinnerung verblasst aber zunehmend und ist somit als politische Begründung obsolet.
