This open access book focuses on practical clinical problems that are frequently encountered in stroke rehabilitation. Consequences of diseases, e.g. impairments and activity limitations, are addressed in rehabilitation with the overall goal to reduce disability and promote participation. Based on the available best external evidence, clinical pathways are described for stroke rehabilitation bridging the gap between clinical evidence and clinical decision-making. Strukturen und Prozesse der Leistungserbringung erfahren zunehmend Aufmerksamkeit, wenn es Produktivitätsreserven im Krankenhaus zu erschließen gilt. Als geeignetes Mittel der Einflussnahme werden Behandlungspfade beschrieben, die eine berufsgruppenübergreifende Zuständigkeit für die einzelnen, mit der Krankenhausversorgung eines Patienten verbundenen Verwaltungs-, Untersuchungs- und Behandlungsschritte zeitlich und personell definieren. Die vorliegende Arbeit betrachtet klinische Behandlungspfade hinsichtlich ihres Einflusses auf Nutzen und Kosten (bei) der Leistungserbringung. Nach einem allgemeinen Überblick über die Krankenhausfinanzierung werden die grundlegenden Aspekte der Steuerung eines Krankenhauses und der betrieblichen Leistungserstellung aufgegriffen. Das Grundkonzept klinischer Behandlungspfade wird verknüpft mit zuvor dargestellten theoretischen Überlegungen. Im Zuge einer Recherche in ausgewählten deutschsprachigen Publikationen erfolgt schließlich der Versuch einer Einschätzung, welche Nutzen- und Kosteneffekte auf die Arbeit mit Behandlungspfaden zurückzuführen sind.
