This thesis argues, that the dominant focus on large-scale appropriations obscures slower processes of Land Grabbing that might take place gradually on a smaller scale. Members of local communities come into particular focus as their land, which serves as a basis for self-sufficiency and collective identity, is highly affected by land acquisitions. To make such a process visible, we collected and analysed qualitative data from twenty local communities around the world. Our results show a characterization of, what we call, ‘Micro Land Grabbing’ by analysing the actors involved, conflicts and effects as well as possible reactions to such land appropriations. This thesis identifies dynamics that intend to facilitate working with a less regarded, but equally important form of Land Grabbing and shows how the concept sheds new light on a hidden process. Therefore, it contributes to the alternative debate on Land Grabbing.

Die immensen Rohstoffvorkommen des Hochlands von Chota Nagpur im indischen Bundesstaat Jharkhand sind für Unternehmen und den indischen Staat von großem Interesse. Pläne und Durchführung von Ressourcenabbau und der Errichtung von Industrieanlagen kollidieren mit den Lebens- und Wirtschaftsweisen der dort ansässigen indigenen Bevölkerung – den Adivasi – und führen zur Entstehung zahlreicher Protestbewegungen. Trotz vermeintlich ungleicher Machtverhältnisse in diesen territorialen Konflikten, konnte die Implementierung einzelner Großprojekte verhindert werden. Ein Beispiel hierfür ist die erfolgreiche Opposition der Adivasi gegen ein geplantes Hüttenwerk des internationalen Stahlgiganten ArcelorMittal. Anhand der Aussagen von Aktivist*innen und der Analyse regionaler historischer Kämpfe der Adivasi, untersucht diese Dissertation Faktoren, die für einen erfolgreichen Widerstand maßgeblich sind.

We look for vaccination and do not perceive the long-term solution against pandemics that threaten to come up more frequently. Looking at this phenomenon in a comprehensive in-depth way would teach us to maintain equilibrium in our relation to nature. However as long as destruction of natural ecosystems is promoted by interests to maximize profits in the mining sector, by planting monocultures, or by the construction of large hydroelectric dams to process bauxite, iron ore, etc. pandemics will continue to pop up, draughts, floods and global warming will endanger lives. Uprooting cultures will provoke conflicts and a loss of relations to nature. Lessening biodiversity will reduce resilience. The life of our family, working group, community must be understood by all of us in order to know if the management of fires, land, water and atmosphere are sound and responsible not only for our well-being but also for all those who live in our region, country, continent planet. We are interconnected as parts of the wholistic ecosystem. Already now we sense that explication for climate change is different in north and south. However, we can no longer maintain to be the only ones who know the truth – this is a colonial inheritance. That is why for our own sake and for that of others we have to widen our view, combine forms of knowledge, think in planetary dimensions while caring for our territories. This is why we publish the talks we gave to Berlin university students in the summer of 2019 hoping that the inspiration will go on and we will feel strong to listen and get allies with those who have cared for their forests and territories, who have defended them against external threats for centuries and thus have protected us.

Traditionelle Völker und Gemeinschaften sind das wichtigste Erbe der Menschheit. Weltweit können etwa eine Milliarde Menschen traditionellen Völkern und Gemeinschaften zugerechnet werden, etwa ein Drittel davon gehört indigenen Völkern an. Eine wichtige Erkenntnis aller Kolloquien seit 2009 ist, dass für ihre Zukunftssicherung die Kontrolle über die Territorien eine zentrale Bededeutung hat. Im V. Internationalen Kolloqium Traditionelle Völker und Gemeinschaften setzten sich Referierende und Teilnehmende mit übergreifenden Aufgabenstellungen sowie dazugehörenden spezifischeren Fragen auseinander. Die Weltregionen Brasilien, Indien, Westafrika und die Alpen sowie die Region Nordhessen standen im Zentrum der Debatte. Die Themenblöcke „Identität und Tradition“, „Territorien, Rechte und Bedrohung“, „Territorium, Rechte und Nachhaltigkeit“ sowie „Migration und Ökonomie“ wurden stets für zwei Regionen diskutiert; dies ermöglichte Vergleichbarkeiten machte aber auch Unterschiede in den Ländern deutlich.

In der Extremismusforschung herrscht wenig Konsens darüber, was genau Distanzierungs- und Ausstiegsprozesse ausmacht. Was jedoch feststeht, ist, dass es nicht „den einen“ Weg aus dem Extremismus gibt. Mit diesem Theoriemodell wird angestrebt, die zahlreichen Wege aus dem Extremismus in einem Theoriegerüst zusammenzufassen und dabei einen Aspekt ganz besonders zu fokussieren: Die Rolle von Identität und Gruppendynamiken. Während sich der erste Teil der Publikation mit der Entwicklung der theoretischen Grundlage beschäftigt, beschreibt der zweite Teil die Anwendung der entwickelten theoretischen Grundlage auf Menschen, die ihren Weg aus dem religiös begründeten Extremismus gefunden haben. Insgesamt lässt sich erkennen, dass Gruppendynamiken eine zentrale Rolle in der Entscheidung, sich von extremistischen Einstellungen und Handlungsweisen zu distanzieren, spielen. Verschiedene Identitäten sind hierbei ebenfalls ein ausschlaggebender Faktor für eine Distanzierung, mehr noch: sie sind wichtig für eine langfristige und nachhaltige Abkehr vom Extremismus.
