Bis zum Jahr 2025 wird das Güterverkehrsaufkommen in den 27 EU-Ländern auf knapp 3500 Mrd. tkm steigen, was einer prozentualen Zunahme von rund 50% im Vergleich zum heutigen Niveau entspricht. Hauptsächlich nimmt der Güterverkehr auf der Straße zu. Ein erhöhtes Straßenverkehrsaufkommen, Staus und zunehmende Umweltbelastungen sind die Folge. Da gleichzeitig die Spritpreise steigen und in Europa scharfe Klimaschutzvorschriften eingeführt werden, sucht man nach Alternativen für ein effizienteres und nachhaltigeres Güterverkehrssystem. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht ob der Kombinierten Verkehr Schiene – Straße eine bedeutende Alternative zum Straßengüterverkehr in Europa sein kann. Ausgehend von der Umfeldanalyse der wirtschaftlichen, politischen und technischen Rahmenbedingungen des Güterverkehrs soll die Branchenstruktur und Wettbewerbsintensität des Kombinierten Verkehrs Schiene – Straße in Europa diskutiert werden. Im Anschluss werden verschiedene generische Wettbewerbsstrategien aufgezeigt. Dieses Vorgehen soll ersichtlich machen, wie der Kombinierte Verkehr funktioniert, unter welchen Bedingungen er wettbewerbsfähig ist und welche Wachstumspotenziale sich für die Zukunft bieten.
