Face To Face Dialogue written by Janet Beavin Bavelas and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-20 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

"This book brings together a long-term program of research focused on a single question that I have pursued, passionately and stubbornly, over several decades: What makes face-to-face dialogue unique? The theory that is still evolving from this research starts with the premise, shared with many language scholars, that face-to-face dialogue is the basic and prototypic form of language use. The research goes on to identify and explore the two resources-multi-modality and a high level of reciprocity--that do not occur in combination in any other form of language use. Research has led to the conclusion that having a face-to-face dialogue is the fastest and most skillful activity that ordinary humans do in real time. To study face-to-face dialogue is to enter and explore a micro-world that a written text cannot capture. The microscope for face-to-face dialogue includes digitized video, appropriate software, and refocusing one's mind from the everyday pace of events. The website that supplements this book [OUP website] demonstrates microanalysis with videos of most of the examples described in the text. The ultimate goal of this book is for readers to appreciate face-to-face dialogue in the several senses of the word: to be able to perceive to apprehend or understand to recognize the significance or subtleties of and to recognize as valuable or excellent."--

Multiculturalism As A Fourth Force written by Paul Pedersen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-28 with Psychology categories.

Until recently the field of psychology has been a monocultural science in a Euro-American envelope. Profound global changes in social, economic, political, and academic development have resulted in a more multicultural perspective for psychology. The field of psychology is now growing more rapidly outside than inside the U.S. As a result of these changes, multiculturalism adds a dimension to psychodynamic, humanistic, and behavioral psychology as much as the fourth dimension of time adds meaning to three dimensional spaces. The contributors to Multiculturalism as a Fourth Force seek to separate what we know from what we do not yet know about the importance of multiculturalism to these changes in the field of psychology. Topics include cultural diversity within and between societies, multiculturalism and psychotherapy, and culture centered interventions. Each contributor describes the need for multiculturalism in psychology, the difficulties in establishing a multicultural perspective and what has to happen before multiculturalism can claim to be a Fourth Force to supplement the other forces for psychology. In addition, the contributors examine the role of culture to the changing field of psychology and provide case examples of this phenomenon. It is the author's hope that by making culture central rather than marginal in the area of psychology, the psychodynamic, behavioral and humanistic theories can become more effective and less culturally biased.

This book is suitable to be utilized as a learning process material for students whose class activity are focused in elaborating cultural communication. A number of quotes on opinions, statements, research results, and other sources from relevant experts are successfully collected and neatly sorted according to the concept of chronological order, which would support the students’ learning. The data exposed are the bases to construct two-way communications among people in a community or society who belongs to the category of different culture groups. The examples of psychological, socio-cultural problems put forward in this book are also highly representative, because they can be used as cultural communication strategy. By imparting the understanding of definitions, terms, principles, and meanings from the cultural aspects, the author invites the readers, especially university students who are learning how to build the bridge of communication through a medium known as cross cultural understanding. Additionally, clues for discussion arranged by the authors are quite apprehensible for students to broaden their horizon of cross-cultural understanding. These clues for discussion offer chances for the students to search for various other sources, such as blogs, research articles, journals, valid news, and so on. Of course, this will bring them to the knowledge that, without putting aside the role of language, different culture will affect the ways of communication. It is no doubt that this book will be very useful according to its purpose. This is due to the fact that the main author, Sri Herminingrum, is an academic with the field of expertise in culture. Not only as a senior lecturer of the cultural and literary studies but also as an independent researcher whose main concern is about socio-cultural phenomena, which highly support the launch of this book. Of course, the contribution of the second author, Sri Utami Budi, whose field of study is related to the written material, is very valuable for the completion of this book.
