Traditions Of Systems Theory written by Darrell Arnold and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-17 with Computers categories.

The term ‘systems theory’ is used to characterize a set of disparate yet related approaches to fields as varied as information theory, cybernetics, biology, sociology, history, literature, and philosophy. What unites each of these traditions of systems theory is a shared focus on general features of systems and their fundamental importance for diverse areas of life. Yet there are considerable differences among these traditions, and each tradition has developed its own methodologies, journals, and forms of anaylsis. This book explores this terrain and provides an overview of and guide to the traditions of systems theory in their considerable variety. The book draws attention to the traditions of systems theory in their historical development, especially as related to the humanities and social sciences, and shows how from these traditions various contemporary developments have ensued. It provides a guide for strains of thought that are key to understanding 20th century intellectual life in many areas.

Scientific discourse is rooted in the close interplay between human cognition and communication. Accordingly, the volume focuses on central aspects of this relationship and the variety of the approaches which are intended to capture these aspects. The book is divided into two related parts. The papers of the first part deal with textual issues, whereas those of the second raise epistemological problems. As a result, the volume is a rich and many-sided contribution to our understanding of how scientific knowledge is constructed and manifested in discourse.

Cognitive Semantics And Scientific Knowledge written by András Kertész and has been published by John Benjamins Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-01-01 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The book focuses on the question of how and to what extent cognitive semantic approaches can contribute to the new field of the cognitive science of science. The argumentation is based on a series of instructive case studies which are intended to test the prospects and limits of the metascientific application of both holistic and modular cognitive semantics. The case studies show that, while cognitive semantic research is able to solve problems which have traditionally been the domain of the philosophy of science, it also encounters serious limits. The prospects and the limits thus revealed suggest new research topics which in future can be tackled by cognitive semantic approaches to the cognitive science of science.
