A History Shared And Divided written by Frank Bösch and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-14 with History categories.

By and large, the histories of East and West Germany have been studied in relative isolation. And yet, for all their differences, the historical trajectories of both nations were interrelated in complex ways, shaped by economic crises, social and cultural changes, protest movements, and other phenomena so diffuse that they could hardly be contained by the Iron Curtain. Accordingly, A History Shared and Divided offers a collective portrait of the two Germanies that is both broad and deep. It brings together comprehensive thematic surveys by specialists in social history, media, education, the environment, and similar topics to assemble a monumental account of both nations from the crises of the 1970s to—and beyond—the reunification era.

Identities And Education written by Stephen Carney and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-28 with Education categories.

Education is central to the project of individual and collective identity formation, national development and international relations, and is crucial in moments of crisis. What should be the agenda of study and action for education in such times? Identities and Education engages with this crucial question, seeking to examine and problematise our contemporary moment. Through the heuristic of the concept of identity, it specifically aims at creating a space for understanding our current challenges and considering the potential of education to address them. Contributors in this volume explore identity, crisis and education, not only in interdisciplinary, inter-sectional, relational and eclectic ways, but also through comparative lens. The book includes contributions from leading scholars from Austria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Portugal, the UK, and the USA and covers issues and themes including fear, hope, refugee education and global citizenship education.

Secret Agents And The Memory Of Everyday Collaboration In Communist Eastern Europe written by Péter Apor and has been published by Anthem Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-27 with History categories.

The collection of essays in Secret Agents and the Memory of Everyday Collaboration in Communist Eastern Europe addresses institutions that develop the concept of collaboration, and examines the function, social representation and history of secret police archives and institutes of national memory that create these histories of collaboration. The essays provide a comparative account of collaboration/participation across differing categories of collaborators and different social milieux throughout East-Central Europe. They also demonstrate how secret police files can be used to produce more subtle social and cultural histories of the socialist dictatorships. By interrogating the ways in which post-socialist cultures produce the idea of, and knowledge about, “collaborators,” the contributing authors provide a nuanced historical conception of “collaboration,” expanding the concept toward broader frameworks of cooperation and political participation to facilitate a better understanding of Eastern European communist regimes.

This book explores Eastern European consumer cultures in the twentieth century, taking a comparative perspective and conceptualizing the peculiarities of consumption in the region. Contributions cover lifestyles and marketing strategies in imperial contexts in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; urban consumer cultures in the Interwar Period; and consumer and advertising cultures in the Soviet Union and its satellite republics. It traces the development of marketing throughout the century, and the changes in society brought about by democratization and the 'Americanization' of consumption. Taken together, the essays gathered here make a valuable contribution to our understanding of consumption and advertising in the region.

National Brands And Global Markets written by Nikolas Glover and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-02-02 with Business & Economics categories.

Between Brexit, efforts to ‘Make America great again’, and ongoing appeals for patriotic consumption to boost economies, the intersection between national identity, marketing campaigns, and consumer choices has been brought to the fore. This book maps out this terrain and provides a framework for how research on ‘Made in’ campaigns and programmes in individual countries can be placed into a broader historical context. The book argues that the history of ‘Made in’ can be used to shed light on society at large: the actors that have promoted it, the institutions that have regulated it, and the cultural environments that have attributed it meaning. At times ‘Made in’ has been a basic, descriptive trade mark, while, in other periods, it has been a key component of carefully developed commercial brands, and in yet other instances it has been used in attempts to forge and redefine national identities. The book opens with an introduction to the three key factors which have featured prominently in ‘Made in’ campaigns – commercial logic, national economic policy, and its use as an instrument in political discourse, and it provides an overview of the evolution of ‘Made in’ from a marketing perspective. This is followed by country-specific discussions of ‘Made in’ with case studies including countries in Western Europe, the US, Japan, and the antipodes. This book will be of significant interest to students and scholars of economic history, business history, and marketing. Chapter 7 of this book is available for free in PDF format as Open Access from the individual product page at www.routledge.com. It has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Nation Branding In Modern History written by Carolin Viktorin and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-24 with History categories.

A recent coinage within international relations, “nation branding” designates the process of highlighting a country’s positive characteristics for promotional purposes, using techniques similar to those employed in marketing and public relations. Nation Branding in Modern History takes an innovative approach to illuminating this contested concept, drawing on fascinating case studies in the United States, China, Poland, Suriname, and many other countries, from the nineteenth century to the present. It supplements these empirical contributions with a series of historiographical essays and analyses of key primary documents, making for a rich and multivalent investigation into the nexus of cultural marketing, self-representation, and political power.
