Based on electronic networks of practice of the Esperanto speech community, Mélanie Maradan establishes the foundation for a new method to extract speakers’ opinions on lexical items from text corpora. Congressional hearings are often the most requested government documents in US libraries. However, among the genres that have been traditionally of interest to political discourse analysts – e.g. political speeches, political interviews, policy documents – hearings have not been of much scrutiny on the part of discourse scholars, an attitude somehow contrasting with the lay public’s interest. Cinzia Giglioni takes the opportunity to gain a unique view into the actors, the interested parties, the issues, from a linguistic and rhetorical perspective. Corpus Dialectology combines the fields of corpus linguistics and dialectological mapping. Die Konzeption und Umsetzung dieses Systems zeigt die Autorin exemplarisch an der Entwicklung des Französischen aus dem Lateinischen. Das Programm ist jedoch in der Lage, die Entwicklung jeder Sprache zu simulieren und eröffnet damit der diachronen Sprachwissenschaft neue Perspektiven.

Mit einer Korpusanalyse weist Sarah Olthoff nach, dass das Passiv in Schulbüchern allerdings ähnlich häufig auftritt wie in wissenschaftlichen Texten. Form und Funktion des Passivs unterscheiden sich zudem fach- und kontextspezifisch. In einer Befragung von Schülerinnen und Schülern ergründet die Autorin weiterführend, dass diese divergierenden Gebrauchsformen als unterschiedlich schwierig empfunden werden. Sprachliche Herausforderungen ergeben sich folglich aus dem Wechselspiel von Form und Funktion. Olthoff erarbeitet demnach wichtige Grundlagen für didaktisch-methodische Aspekte im Rahmen einer sprachsensiblen Gestaltung schulischer Lehr- und Lernprozesse.
