Alexey Shchusev (1873-1949) was one of the most celebrated architects of the Soviet Union, famous for Lenin's Mausoleum in Moscow. Not only a gifted designer of many prominent buildings, his career was quite unique and closely intertwined with the turbulent course of Russian and Soviet history. He was one of the very few architects who managed to rise to the top of the architectural hierarchy under the tsars and then to repeat this success under Soviet rule. Already before the Revolution of 1917, Shchusev was an acclaimed Revivalist architect, wellknown for his church designs and Moscow's Kazan Station. In the 1920s, he became a renowned Constructivist. Following the official renunciation of Avant-Garde architecture ordered by Stalin, Shchusev swiftly became an advocate of Socialist Classicism, designing many projects in the dictator's favoured Empire Style in order to satisfy the Stalinist state's needs for monumental representation. Combining a scholarly study of Shchusev's career with stunning photographs this book traces the development of this artistically and politically gifted architect through the architectural and historical changes in the first half of the twentieth century.

Phnom Penh written by Moritz Henning and has been published by Dom Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-10 with categories.

Founded in the fifteenth century, planned and rebuilt by the French, and then modernized and expanded in the era after independence, the city of Phnom Penh displays a diverse mix of styles. Here, early religious and vernacular buildings, the glittering structures of the Royal Palace, and colonial buildings of the French Protectorate (1863-1953) coexist with the gems of the 'New Khmer Architecture' of the 1960s. After the destructive period under the Khmer Rouge, the city went through a rebirth. It has seen rapid modernization and economic development in recent years, and its urban landscape is transforming at a breathtaking pace. This guide offers a comprehensive overview of Phnom Penh's built heritage, highlighting its history and architectural layers. In addition to covering better-known masterpieces, it also takes readers through the city's 'everyday architecture', revealing places off the beaten track. Illustrated with contemporary photographs and historical images, the book presents more than 140 works that illuminate the four major phases of development in the city's ever-changing urban history. It thus makes an important contribution to current debates on heritage preservation in the booming metropolis. Interviews with local experts present their individual perspectives on the city and place the buildings in a broader context.

Public relations professionals are operating in an increasingly challenging and complex environment. This revised and updated edition provides a framework to enable public relations professionals to clearly articulate and demonstrate their own contribution to organisational effectiveness, while also setting out the specific capabilities public relations leaders must exhibit to operate at the highest levels of the organisation. This edition further develops the pioneering approach to integrating thinking around public relations, leadership, and strategy. It has been updated comprehensively to address contemporary developments and introduce new research and fresh perspectives from the authors. New to this edition are insights from Chief Executives on what they expect from public relations leaders and a comprehensive set of capabilities which scope the demanding role of professionals at the top of their game. Concise and practical, this textbook is suitable for MBA and other postgraduate and executive education qualifications in Public Relations and Corporate Communications – especially for those students who wish to pursue a successful career as a professional public relations specialist, able to operate strategically at the top of successful organisations.

"Quesadillas sizzling on street corners outside cosy coffee shops; mariachi in sequined sombreros serenading late-night revellers; tower blocks casting long shadows over baroque churches and Aztec ruins studded with cacti. Mexico City simultaneously conforms to every stereotype and challenges every preconception with shameless self-assurance. We push past the colourful chaos and Frida Kahlo merchandise (although, naturally, we drop by her cobalt-blue home) to find the city's tastiest tacos and the retailers breathing new life into classic crafts. We lead you to our favourite mural-splashed buildings and the best places in which to practise your salsa - ending up in a dimly lit mezcal bar or two for good measure. There's never been a better time to visit the Mexican capital so dust off your dancing shoes and join the fiesta. Órale, amigos!"--Provided by the publisher.

Whichever city you choose - though we recommend all three, of course - you'll be charmed like a snake on Jemaa El Fna in no time. And to help you sift through the noise, here's our rundown of the best that Morocco has to offer. Marhaba! Morocco may be a short hop, skip and a jump across the Med from Europe but it feels like another world. Salesmen flaunting their wares in the souks, robed figures rushing to prayer and ancient palaces decked with dazzling tiles - it's easy to fall under its spell. Marrakech, on the cusp of both desert and mountain, offers old-world glamour and an enthralling sense of adventure. Casablanca, lapped by the Atlantic, is a thoroughly modern metropolis with a special affinity for art deco. And at the northernmost tip of the country is the eccentric cliffside city of Tangier, where many a writer and artist have pitched up and sought inspiration over the years.
