Da Danmark besættes af tyskerne i 1940, rejser tre Gestapo-folk i al hemmelighed fra Tyskland til Danmark, hvor de i tæt samarbejde med det danske politi giver sig til at optrevle den danske afdeling af Ernst Wollweber-organisationen, der gennem de foregående år har udført en lang række sabotager i verdenskommunismens navn. Samarbejdet mellem de to politiinstanser fører fængsling, henrettelse og dødsmarch med sig for de snesevis af kommunister, som bliver fanget. Samtidig begynder fundamentet i Komintern at krakelere indefra. "Krig og slutspil" er det fjerde og sidste bind i Erik Nørgaards serie "Drømmen om verdensrevolutionen" om Komintern – den internationale sammenslutning af kommunister, der sammen forsøgte at udbrede kommunismen til hele verden. Kominterns arbejde i årene mellem den russiske revolution og 2. Verdenskrig havde enorme konsekvenser, selvom mange mennesker er helt uvidende herom. Den danske journalist og forfatter Erik Nørgaard Lykke (1929-2013) skrev blandt andet for Information og Politiken. Erik Nørgaard vandt flere priser, herunder Cavlingprisen og PH-prisen, for sin undersøgende journalistik, der stillede skarpt på vilkårene for nogle af landets dårligst stillede. Som forfatter udgav Erik Nørgaard over 50 bøger inden for genrerne skønlitteratur, erindringer, faglitteratur, reportage og historie.

This volume investigates the ambition of the Red International of Labour Unions to radicalize the global waterfront during the interwar period. The main vehicle was the International Propaganda Committee of Transport Workers, replaced in 1930 by the International of Seamen and Harbour Workers as well as their agitation and propaganda centres, the International Harbour Bureaus and the International Seamen’s Clubs. The book scrutinizes their solidarity campaigns in support of local and national strikes as well as on their agitation against discrimination, segregation and racism within the unions, their demands to organize non-white maritime transport workers, and their calls for engagement in anti-fascist, anti-war and anti-imperialist actions.

This book provides an analysis of the articulation and organisation of radical international solidarity by organisations that were either connected to or had been established by the Communist International (Comintern), such as the International Red Aid, the International Workers’ Relief, the League Against Imperialism, the International of Seamen and Harbour Workers and the International Trade Union Committee of Negro Workers. The guiding light of these organisations was a radical interpretation of international solidarity, usually in combination with concepts and visions of gender, race and class as well as anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism and anti-fascism. All of these new transnational networks form a controversial part of the contemporary history of international organisations. Like the Comintern these international organisations had an ambigious character that does not fit nicely into the traditional typologies of international organisations as they were neither international governmental organisations nor international non-governmental organisations. They constituted a radical continuation of the pre-First World War Left and exemplified an attempt to implement the ideas and movements of a new type of radical international solidarity not only in Europe, but on a global scale. The increasing radicalization of political life in most countries in Europe lends special relevance to studies of the antifascist legacies on the continent. This insightful collection of essays is an in-depth review of antifascism in Slovenia, setting it in the context of related movements elsewhere in Europe. The period treated by the 19 essays comprises the interwar period, World War Two, and the post-war decades. The comparative and transnational perspectives advanced by the volume change our understanding of antifascism. The essays deal with the right-wing but also left-wing instrumentalization of antifascism, with a particular focus on the communist and post-communist periods. The authors point out that antifascism comes in various strains, whether inspired by liberalism, social democracy, communism, monarchism, anarchism, or even Christian conservatism.
