Bernard Buffet written by Bernard Buffet and has been published by Walther Konig Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Art categories.

Bernard Buffet (1928 ndash; 1999) is an artist who was once feted as being one of France's most important painters and the legitimate successor of Picasso. As the 'painter of existentialism' and the man who found the images to describe post-War sensitivities, Buffet's works had a visual presence and renown in West Europe that almost no other painter has achieved since. This immense popularity in the 1950s and 1960s was followed by critics and the institutional art world both rejecting his work most incisively. The vitriolic tone of this rejection intimates that Buffet should be considered someone who was suppressed rather than forgotten. He hardly varied his distinctive, expressive style through the decades and with it Bernard Buffet transformed an inconceivable number of themes, be they violent or trivial, into paintings. Edited by Udo Kittelmann, this is the first monograph on Buffet in many years and it re-positions the artist back into the art world. English, German and French text.

As such Prouvost exposes the underside of the art institution, offering it up as a site for imaginative speculation.Laure Prouvost was Winner of the 2013 Turner Prize, and her work is featured in the British Art Show 8.Published on the occasion of the exhibition at Haus der Kunst, Munich, 27 November 2015 - 18 September 2016.

The main affirmation of artistic practice must today happen through thinking about the conditions and the status of the artist's work. Only then can it be revealed that what is a part of the speculations of capital is not art itself, but mostly artistic life. Artist at Work examines the recent changes in the labour of an artist and addresses them from the perspective of performance.

The loneliness of big city life was Edward Hopper's subject. His works have come to symbolize the melancholy of modern life. The catalogue shows six of Edward Hopper's major works together with around 65 other masterpieces from the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Works by such artists as Man Ray, Lyonel Feininger, Charles Sheeler and Georgia O'Keeffe will impressively illustrate the rapid development of cities, a central theme in American art prior to the Second World War.

Art History After Modernism written by Hans Belting and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-08 with Art categories.

"Art history after modernism" does not only mean that art looks different today; it also means that our discourse on art has taken a different direction, if it is safe to say it has taken a direction at all. So begins Hans Belting's brilliant, iconoclastic reconsideration of art and art history at the end of the millennium, which builds upon his earlier and highly successful volume, The End of the History of Art?. "Known for his striking and original theories about the nature of art," according to the Economist, Belting here examines how art is made, viewed, and interpreted today. Arguing that contemporary art has burst out of the frame that art history had built for it, Belting calls for an entirely new approach to thinking and writing about art. He moves effortlessly between contemporary issues—the rise of global and minority art and its consequences for Western art history, installation and video art, and the troubled institution of the art museum—and questions central to art history's definition of itself, such as the distinction between high and low culture, art criticism versus art history, and the invention of modernism in art history. Forty-eight black and white images illustrate the text, perfectly reflecting the state of contemporary art. With Art History after Modernism, Belting retains his place as one of the most original thinkers working in the visual arts today.

Lucky Kunst written by Gregor Muir and has been published by Aurum this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-25 with Art categories.

These days artists like Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin are major celebrities. But Gregor Muir knew them at the start; his unique memoir chronicles the birth of Young British Art. Muir, YBA’s ‘embedded journalist’, happened to be in Shoreditch and Hoxton before Jay Jopling arrived with his White Cube Gallery, when this was still a semi-derelict landscape of grotty pubs and squats. There he witnessed, amid a whirl of drunkenness, scrapes and riotous hedonism, the coming-together of a remarkable array of young artists – Hirst, the Chapman brothers, Rachel Whiteread, Sam Taylor-Wood, Angus Fairhurst - who went on to produce a fresh, irreverent, often notorious form of art - Hirst’s shark, Sarah Lucas’s two fried eggs and a kebab. By the time of the seminal Sensation show at the Royal Academy YBA had changed the art world for ever.
