"L’agire professionale del servizio sociale nell'ospedale pediatrico" ha lo scopo di proporre un’analisi su un tema ancora poco dibattuto e studiato, che riguarda l’agire professionale degli assistenti sociali negli ospedali pediatrici. L’idea di voler affrontare questa tematica nasce grazie al tirocinio formativo svoltosi presso il servizio sociale dell’Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù (IRCCS). Quest’esperienza, quale osservatorio privilegiato, ha portato alla conoscenza di una particolare realtà operativa, tanto da suscitare il bisogno di un’ulteriore riflessione su come oggi l’assistente sociale svolge il proprio lavoro nell’ospedale pediatrico e come alcune aziende ospedaliere siano riuscite nel tempo a promuovere questa figura, attribuendole in itinere maggiore importanza. Allo scopo di affrontare ed analizzare tale tematica è stato utile l’impiego di interviste semi- strutturate rivolte a tre distinte realtà ospedaliere in cui opera il servizio sociale quali il Bambino Gesù (IRCCS) della Città del Vaticano, l’Istituto Gaslini (IRCCS) di Genova e l’Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Meyer di Firenze.La definizione del concetto di salute, stabilito dall’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità (OMS) nel 1948, sottolinea l’importanza che la componente sociale riveste nel benessere dell'individuo, introducendo in campo ospedaliero e sanitario nuove figure professionali psico- sociali. L’istituzione del servizio sociale in ospedale offre secondo Richard Cabot un valido contributo nella cura del paziente in quanto gli assistenti sociali, possedendo una visione globale, possono arricchire quella più specialistica del medico. In tal modo il servizio sociale diventa un valido supporto operativo “al fine di ristabilire il benessere complessivo della persona ricoverata” (Caprini 2016, 631). L’introduzione negli ospedali pediatrici di politiche che promuovano standard di cura più confacenti ai bisogni dei minori ricoverati, hanno generato un graduale e positivo processo di attenzione nei confronti della qualità della degenza e una promozione del ruolo dell’assistente sociale in ospedale. Pertanto questo professionista, al fine di sviluppare progetti rispondenti alle esigenze del paziente e della sua famiglia, cerca di attivare interventi più adeguati al loro benessere attraverso un lavoro di rete integrato, reso accessibile anche agli altri professionisti e operatori sanitari (Dotti 2015). Partendo da queste considerazioni si vuole indagare, attraverso le interviste effettuate agli assistenti sociali delle tre strutture considerate, come il servizio sociale svolga il proprio ruolo e le proprie prassi all’interno di tali contesti.
