Augusto De Angelis (1888-1944) was an Italian novelist and journalist, most famous for his series of detective novels featuring Commissario Carlo De Vincenzi. His cultured protagonist was enormously popular in Italy, but the Fascist government of the time considered him an enemy, and during the Second World War he was imprisoned by the authorities. Shortly after his release he was beaten up by a Fascist activist and died from his injuries.

Una lettera anonima trovata in questura suscita l’interesse del commissario De Vincenzi. È un avvertimento: qualcosa di brutto accadrà all’Albergo delle Tre Rose. "L’Albergo delle Tre Rose" è uno dei quindici romanzi con De Vincenzi come protagonista. Un giallo d’autore, un mistero a camera chiusa con variazioni originali e colpi di scena mozzafiato che trasporterà il lettore nella Milano tipica di De Angelis, crepuscolare e noir, avvolta dalla pioggia e dal trambusto dei tram degli anni quaranta. Augusto De Angelis (1888—1948) è stato uno scrittore e giallista italiano. Da molti considerato l’inventore del giallo all’italiana, è il creatore del commissario De Vincenzi. Per via delle pesanti limitazioni che il regime fascista imponeva sui romanzi gialli (il colpevole, ad esempio, non poteva essere italiano), De Angelis è diventato famoso per intrecci di trama complicati dai tratti esotici e misteriosi.
