Dans le champ des relations internationales, l'Océanie est souvent la grande oubliée. Une sorte de "coin du monde" que les représentations cartographiques les plus souvent utilisées incarnent. Contrairement à ses voisins, dont beaucoup sont des micro-États insulaires, l'Australie est membre du G20, fait partie des pays les plus vastes au monde (au cinquième rang) et bénéficie d'une reconnaissance internationale. La démarche de Fabien Jacquet, associée sans doute à son profil de marin et son goût du large, est aussi celle du découvreur, soucieux de partager et faire connaître.
