This volume draws attention to and moves beyond the traditional methodological frames that have governed knowledge production in the academic study of Islam. Departing from Orientalist and largely textual studies, the chapters collected herein revolve around three main themes: gender, the political, and what has come to be known as "lived Islam." The first involves ascertaining how to read gender and gender issues into traditional sources. The second encourages an attunement to the often delicate intersection between the spheres of religion and politics. The final provides a corrective to our traditional over-emphasis on the interpretation of texts and a preoccupation with studying (mainly male) elites. Cette "Introduction a la theologie musulman" date de pres de soixante ans. Lors de sa premiere publication, en 1948, elle etait totalement novatrice, car, a l'epoque, le domaine des textes depouilles ici restait en grande partie confine dans les ecoles de sciences religieuses musulmanes. Le Pere Anawati, grace a ses contacts au Caire avec les professeurs de l'Universite d'al-Azhar, a pu commencer a entrer dans la comprehension de leur contenu pour en faire ensuite l'analyse avec Louis Gardet. Beaucoup d'etudes en langues occidentales ont ete publiees depuis, mais, curieusement, personne n'a encore repris l'ensemble du travail presente ici pour l'enrichir et le completer, ce qui serait pourtant souhaitable. Certaines syntheses imposantes ont ete elaborees, mais nous ne trouvons pas encore de nouveau "manuel" comme celui-ci. Cet ouvrage garde alors une vraie utilite, et sa reimpression sera accueillie favorablement par beaucoup de chercheurs.
