Guillaume Lepesqueux presente dans ce livre l'interpretation d'Ex 3,14 dans le contexte d'enonciation du livre de l'Exode et de sa composition litteraire. L'histoire de la reception de ce verset en Occident montre en effet qu'il n'a ete le plus souvent lu qu'au prisme de ses traductions grecque et latine, en etant presque toujours isole du contexte litteraire dans lequel il fait prioritairement sens. L'auteur se propose ainsi de resituer et d'interpreter Ex 3,14 dans le cadre de la pericope du buisson ardent (Ex 3,1-4,18), puis d'elargir son propos aux deux autres passages de l'Exode dans lesquelles Dieu/Yhwh communique et explique lui-meme son nom a Moise (Ex 6,2-7,7 ; 33-34). L'exegese detaillee de ces trois recits conduit a la mise au jour de quatre logiques d'exposition du nom divin, qui correspondent a quatre moments singuliers de la composition du livre.

From about 5500 cal BC to soon after 5000 cal BC, the lifeways of the first farmers of central Europe, the LBK culture (Linearbandkeramik), are seen in distinctive practices of longhouse use, settlement forms, landscape choice, subsistence, material culture and mortuary rites. Within the five or more centuries of LBK existence a dynamic sequence of changes can be seen in, for instance, the expansion and increasing density of settlement, progressive regionalisation in pottery decoration, and at the end some signs of stress or even localised crisis. Although showing many features in common across its very broad distribution, however, the LBK phenomenon was not everywhere the same, and there is a complicated mixture of uniformity and diversity. This major study takes a strikingly large regional sample, from northern Hungary westwards along the Danube to Alsace in the upper Rhine valley, and addresses the question of the extent of diversity in the lifeways of developed and late LBK communities, through a wide-ranging study of diet, lifetime mobility, health and physical condition, the presentation of the bodies of the deceased in mortuary ritual. It uses an innovative combination of isotopic (principally carbon, nitrogen and strontium, with some oxygen), osteological and archaeological analysis to address difference and change across the LBK, and to reflect on cultural change in general.

English is the language of science today. No matter which languages you know, if you want your work seen, studied, and cited, you need to publish in English. But that hasn’t always been the case. Though there was a time when Latin dominated the field, for centuries science has been a polyglot enterprise, conducted in a number of languages whose importance waxed and waned over time—until the rise of English in the twentieth century. So how did we get from there to here? How did French, German, Latin, Russian, and even Esperanto give way to English? And what can we reconstruct of the experience of doing science in the polyglot past? With Scientific Babel, Michael D.
