Tentative pour le moins hardie que d'avoir écrit cet essai sur l'imaginaire arabo-musulman, indo-persan à l'est, turco-européen au nord, afro-océanique au sud, et berbère de surcroît. Pourtant, le chemin parcouru était exaltant : ne fallait-il pas traiter de deux " innommables ", arabité et islamité, fondus, confondus, alternés au cours du IIe millénaire, où seule l'histoire heurtée des hommes pouvait leur donner la gravité nécessaire qui sied aux grandes civilisations ? Et la civilisation arabo-islamique en est une. Dans cette affaire, le doute n'est pas permis, sinon pour donner à l'observateur scientifique l'argument d'une approche complexe et diversifiée. En effet, l'imaginaire arabo-musulman (islamique, chaque fois qu'il s'agit de la culture créée : architecture, calligraphie, science...) est traversé par une multitude de champs contraires, tout aussi marquants les uns que les autres. Outre leurs aspects sectoriels, les grandes manifestations de l'imaginaire arabo-musulman sont plus que des médiations ou des rappels, elles jouissent d'une identité anthropologique propre. Les chemins qui mènent à l'imaginaire ne sont répertoriés, ici, que pour des besoins méthodologiques : ils épousent si parfaitement les interstices de la vie qu'il est vain d'en dresser ne serait-ce qu'une liste ramassée. En définitive, l'Imaginaire se veut l'un des préalables à toute recherche sur les Signes fondateurs de la civilisation arabo-islamique, appréhendée à travers un triple " inconscient " : arabe, berbère et musulman.

La notion du complot, dans la culture arabo-musulmane, trouve son origine dans la Fitna (la Grande Discorde) vers 656. Les guerres entre les compagnons du Prophete, ont ete imputees a un seul homme: Abdallah Ibn Sabaa (juif converti a l'Islam), qui, d'apres plusieurs theologiens, etait responsable des divergences des Musulmans pendant cette periode. Cette mentalite d'imputer ses erreurs a l'Autre est suscitee par un refus d'expliquer rationnellement l'Histoire. En effet, l'islam retient que l'Umma repose sur le reve d'une societe homogene, ou toute contestation est suspecte. Ce qui explique l'amplification de la rhetorique du complot dans cette culture, depuis la Fitna, jusqu'au printemps arabe, en passant par les croisades, les invasions mongoles, et les guerres Golfe ! Cette ideologie fut acceptee par la population musulmane car elle degage de toute responsabilite. Par ailleurs elle est machiaveliquement cultivee par la classe dirigeante, a des fins politiques. C'est ainsi que la mentalite du complot s'erige comme un raccourci mental et un contournement de l'autocritique. Elle est devenue un paravent pour celer toutes les difficultes, dont souffre la societe arabo-musulmane.

When I was only starting the therapeutic work with the Middle Eastern patients, I was looking for some kind of guidance to enable my genuine understanding of the Muslim patient cases. However, the material was scarce, haphazardly scattered, and mostly referring to the traditional therapies. That was not helpful and was even more confusing. With time, I managed to amass my own systemized data based on regular observations, practical cases, reflections, and exchanges with the colleagues. This material helped me to approach each case individually while respecting the cultural environment of a patient. Eventually, the book was published. This is the kind of book that I have always wanted to find, and I had to write it eventually by myself. The work contains the systematized knowledge on the evolution of scientific psychology in the Islamic world, which starts with the prophetic times and continues until now. The book reveals the signifiers, which form a structure of a Muslim psyche. It also exposes the recurrent mental health complaints of the Arab patients and investigates their unconscious roots. The book is intended, first of all, for professionals who are directly related to the Muslim mental health-care system. Secondly, it is for anyone who is considering undergoing a personal analysis. And certainly, the edition is for everyone interested in the subject. This book does not intend to bring the answers. It rather continues the dialogue regarding the necessity of creating the psychological-counseling culture in the Muslim world.
