Per fortuna la siora, che la passava i settanta e la gaveva anche una gamba slossa, vedendo rivar 'sto tram a tuta velocità, la gaveva ritrovà l'agilità dei venti ani e con un salto acrobatico la gaveva schivà el bolide. Però ghe iera stà dani grossi al boteghin e el gendarmo Fischer gaveva portà el nono del giudice. Qua el nono el se infervorava a contar: al processo la siora Bepina la parlava par talian, el gendarmo Fischer par tedesco e el testimonio, un certo Pizdaric, par croato. Mi rispondevo in tute tre le lingue!" El giudice el se gaveva stupido e a un certo punto el ghe gaveva domandà al nono: "foi come parlatte tante lingue, che sqvuole afete fato?" "le scuole popolari, sior giudice", gaveva risposto el nono "bravo! assolto!" iera stada la sentenza del giudice"

Attingendo alla memoria, l’autore fa rivivere nei suoi racconti i profumi, gli odori, i sapori che hanno accompagnato la sua infanzia e gli hanno dato quell’ “imprintig” che lo segue da sempre e lo spinge a ritornare nei posti che gli sono cari. Il pane e i piatti della tradizione istriana sono i veri protagonisti di molti dei suoi racconti. Sono piatti semplici ma i loro sapori hanno il potere di risvegliare emozioni da tempo sopite e di riportarci indietro nel nostro bel mondo antico.
