Le terme d'" Insight " définit, en anglais, la conscience du trouble. Or, ce terme n'a pas d'équivalent dans les langues latines et n'existe donc pas en tant que tel en français. Et pourtant, le concept a été inventé en France au Siècle des Lumières, lors des réunions de la Société Médico-psychologique sur le thème de la "folie partielle " et de son application dans la responsabilité médico-légale du patient. Depuis cette date, les questions concernant l'Insight et sa nature n'ont cessé d'intéresser les cliniciens : Comment expliquer le déficit de l'Insight dans les pathologies psychiatriques ? Comment définir l'Insight et le distinguer de l'anosognosie ? L'Insight est-il un élément pronostique de la maladie? L'Insight varie-t-il en fonction de la sévérité de la maladie ? L'Insight peut-il être modifié par un traitement ? Cet ouvrage est la traduction du travail du Docteur Ivana S. Markovà. Pour elle, l'Insight se conçoit comme un état mental plutôt que comme un symptôme de la maladie. Réalisant un immense travail de revue de la littérature et de conceptualisation, elle est parvenue à distinguer très clairement l'Insight (en psychiatrie) de l'anosognosie (en neurologie), répondant ainsi aux multiples interrogations soulevées par ce concept. Devant la complexité du concept d'Insight et son intérêt en recherche clinique, le Docteur Nematollah Jaafari a constitué, à Poitiers, l'" Insight Study Group " dont le travail a rendu possible la traduction en français de cet ouvrage. Ce groupe a proposé de traduire le terme d'" Insight " par le terme d'"Introvision ". II a aussi permis l'organisation du premier Congrès international sur l'Insight à Poitiers en 2008.
