Jorge Riechmann (Madrid, 1962), conocido por sus ensayos anteriores sobre nuevos movimientos sociales, partidos verdes, ecosocialismo, ética ecológica o cultivos y alimentos transgénicos -además de autor de una extensa obra poética-, aborda en Cuidar la T(t)ierra la cuestión de como concebir un modelo agroalimentario sustentable para las décadas que vienen. Al final en el capítulo 14 leemos: "El actual sistema de agricultura industrial -que a escala mundial prevalece frente a la agricultura campesina, y se presenta a sí mismo como perfección de progreso- es un disparate en términos sociales, ecológicos, económicos y éticos. Constituye, en cuanto tal, una parte altamente representativa del todo aún más disparatado que constituya la actual sociedad industrial, dentro de la cual se sitúa. Mientras sigamos comiéndonos la Tierra en lugar de comer de la tierra, devorando petróleo en lugar de alimentarnos con la luz del sol, produciendo y extrayendo sin preocuparnos de cerrar los ciclos de materiales, el aceleradísimo declive de la biosfera que impulsamos en la actualidad se agravará sin freno. Es hora de cambiar de rumbo. Este libro querría contribuir a mostrar en qué dirección."
