This publication, realised in the occasion of the exposition held in Villa Bardini (Florence) between July 2016 and July 2017, includes two stories that took place in different times and spaces, but both related to the life and works of Pietro Annigoni. The first one is linked to the portrait of Stefania von Kories, an extraordinarily fascinating lady painted by Annigonni in Florence between 1958 and 1959. After its long trip across the world, the canvas is back on the hills of Florence, in the museum named after the great painter. The second story is developed around Palmiro Meacci, a figure yet unknown to the public at large. Humbly born man, he met Annigoni in 1969 and became his secretary. He was consequently introduced to the international scene, and he shared with the master twenty years of unique experiences. In this volume, together with critical texts and detailed studies about the lives of the protagonists, it is possible to find a gallery of paintings by Annigoni and rare photographs. Texts by Umberto Tombari, Michele Gremigni; Rossella Segreto Annigoni, Bruno Wang, Bob Safie, Emanuele Barletti, Gianmaria Scenini.

A landmark retrospective on the Art Deco painter exploring her intersectional identities Tamara de Lempicka (1894-1980), the "Baroness with a Brush," is often cast as one of Art Deco's most celebrated artists, though her work transcends categorization, incorporating elements of Cubism and Neoclassicism in a distinctive, sensuous blend of form and function. Lempicka's paintings, including a self-portrait as the driver of a sleek green Bugatti, often depict dazzling, self-assured women, exuding elegance and transgressive sexuality while combining the modern with the classical. This gorgeous survey presents the full arc of Lempicka's career in the context of her life and her evolving identity, including her Polish and Russian origins, her marriages and other relationships, and her time in France, Italy, and the United States. This book unfolds chronologically through three sections that mark the stages of the artist's life and the evolution of her artistic style, with particular focus on her Jewish heritage, her expression of gender, and her sexuality. Published in association with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Exhibition Schedule: de Young Museum, San Francisco (October 12, 2024-February 9, 2025) The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (March 9-May 26, 2025)

Nationalists Who Feared The Nation written by Dominique Kirchner Reill and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-01 with History categories.

We can often learn as much from political movements that failed as from those that achieved their goals. Nationalists Who Feared the Nation looks at one such frustrated movement: a group of community leaders and writers in Venice, Trieste, and Dalmatia during the 1830s, 40s, and 50s who proposed the creation of a multinational zone surrounding the Adriatic Sea. At the time, the lands of the Adriatic formed a maritime community whose people spoke different languages and practiced different faiths but identified themselves as belonging to a single region of the Hapsburg Empire. While these activists hoped that nationhood could be used to strengthen cultural bonds, they also feared nationalism's homogenizing effects and its potential for violence. This book demonstrates that not all nationalisms attempted to create homogeneous, single-language, -religion, or -ethnicity nations. Moreover, in treating the Adriatic lands as one unit, this book serves as a correction to "national" histories that impose our modern view of nationhood on what was a multinational region.
