Los diarios de Rafael Chirbes: un documento imprescindible para comprender los entresijos de un gran escritor. Poco después del fallecimiento de Rafael Chirbes en 2015 apareció un primer libro póstumo indispensable: la novela Paris-Austerlitz. Ahora, seis años después de su muerte, el lector tiene en las manos sus diarios, que el autor revisó y preparó para su publicación. Son anotaciones recogidas en diversos cuadernos que cubren el periodo que va desde 1985 hasta 2005, es decir, desde sus inicios como escritor, antes de publicar su primera novela –Mimoun, finalista del Premio Herralde en 1988–, hasta poco antes de su ya inapelable consagración internacional con Crematorio. Estos diarios son el autorretrato sin máscaras de un ser humano –sus dudas, flaquezas, miedos, enfermedades, enterezas, ambiciones, anhelos– y una sucesión de opiniones y vivencias relacionadas con la política, el sexo, la música, el cine y la literatura; reflexiones sobre lo que Chirbes amaba o detestaba, siempre de forma apasionada. Pero también ofrecen un privilegiado acercamiento a lo que podríamos llamar la cocina del escritor: Chirbes anota sus análisis –lúcidos y contundentes– sobre libros ajenos (entre ellos, unos diarios: los de Musil) y deja constancia de los entresijos de la creación de su propia obra, las dudas, las búsquedas estilísticas, su modo de mirar y retratar la realidad... Y asoman también los peajes de la «vida de escritor», por ejemplo en el relato de un viaje promocional por Alemania en 2004, repleto de anécdotas a veces desoladoras y en otras ocasiones grotescamente disparatadas. Sin duda estos diarios están destinados a convertirse en un clásico del género, y son un documento fundamental para completar el retrato de un escritor imprescindible de la literatura española de finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI. Como dice Fernando Valls en uno de los prólogos que acompañan esta edición: «Estas páginas están llenas de vida, a menudo descarnada, y de literatura, pues nos abren la puerta de algunos episodios íntimos, pero también nos permiten acceder a su taller de escritura. Podría decirse, por tanto, que recogen la verdad de un hombre que vivió casi siempre, hasta donde pudo cumplirlo, al margen de la mayoría de las convenciones, y la de un narrador que nunca dejó de buscar la manera de presentar la realidad al ritmo de la historia, de la sociedad y de los individuos, sujetos de un tiempo que es todavía el nuestro.»

A ellos sumamos reflexiones sobre Carlos Fuentes, escritor mexicano al que le unió una gran amistad con Juan Goytisolo, quien no sólo le invitó a visitarle en su domicilio marroquí, sino que incluso le hospedó en su piso parisino, donde, en 1973, en el departamento prestado por Juan Goytisolo y Monique Lange, prosiguió la redacción de Terra Nostra. Esto es todo: presentar y hablar de tres conocidos circunstanciados, quienes –señalamos– no fueron nunca nuestros amigos, pero sí nuestros conocidos circunstanciados. Gracias y buena lectura.
