Durante décadas, la nación de Colombia ha sufrido el flagelo del desplazamiento forzado debido al conflicto armado, lo cual ha dejado más de ocho millones sin hogar y sin tierra. Para responder ante esta crisis, los teólogos de la Fundación Universitaria Seminario Bíblico de Colombia crearon una metodología—la investigación-acción misional—a fin de entender el fenómeno del desplazamiento forzado, movilizar las iglesias del país y así fomentar la recuperación holística de las víctimas. Se involucraron docenas de estudiosos y profesionales de cuatro continentes, además de coinvestigadores seleccionados de las mismas comunidades desplazadas. La investigación abarcó los campos de la teología, la economía, la política, la pedagogía, la sociología y naturalmente la teología. El fruto de esta colaboración innovadora fue una intervención llamada Fe y Desplazamiento, la cual se ha implementado en docenas de comunidades a lo largo del país. Este libro recopila sus hallazgos y aprendizajes, describiendo el potencial de la metodología de investigación-acción misional y demostrando el poder de la investigación teológica interdisciplinar, puesta al servicio de la misión de la iglesia local.

La eugenesia y otras desgracias recoge una serie de artículos escritos por Chesterton en torno a la aprobación de la Mental Deficiency Act de 1913, que limitaba los derechos y libertades de personas a quienes los «expertos», aplicando la selección natural darwiniana, clasificaban como «no aptas». Estas páginas suponen la resistencia intelectual del gran escritor inglés a la ideología eugenésica que se extendió por el mundo como un tsunami en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Con su sentido común característico, su alegre ironía y su profundo convencimiento de la dignidad humana, Chesterton desenmascara los sofismas utópicos de los eugenistas, deja al descubierto sus tretas de manipulación e ingeniería social y defiende al hombre real frente a quienes, invocando una supuesta ciencia y la mejora de la raza, querían -y quieren todavía- imponer la ley del más fuerte. A cien años de distancia, sus argumentos y razones no son sólo reflejo de su época, sino que, lejos de perder actualidad, parecen también casi proféticos de las oportunidades y los riesgos de nuestro tiempo. De La eugenesia y otras desgracias (1922) (Eugenics and Other Evils) los lectores de Chesterton en lengua española tenían poca o casi ninguna noticia, pues hasta la fecha solo se había publicado una traducción en Argentina en la década de los 60. De ahí el interés de esta nueva edición española ahora traducida por Aurora Rice y presentada con una extensa y documentada introducción de Salvador Antuñano. Se añade también un ensayo sobre la reforma social y la problemática del control de la natalidad que permanecía inédito en español y que Chesterton publicó separadamente en 1927. Gilbert Keith Chesterton (Londres, 1874-Beaconsfield, 1936). Una amplia parte de su tiempo y de su esfuerzo la dedicó a lo que para él era de suma importancia: la justicia social. Obras como Lo que está mal en el mundo o El perfil de la cordura recogen algunas de sus ideas políticas, económicas, culturales. En ellas aparecen también los principios de su filosofía aplicados a las situaciones concretas de la vida social. Y aunque no todos compartan la imagen de la realidad que allí expone, la mayoría suele apreciar su calidad como escritor, el esplendor de su ingenio, la hondura de sus ideas y su contundente sentido común. Y, por supuesto, todos encuentran en sus obras materia de reflexión, discusión y, como testimonia Borges, felicidad. La eugenesia y otras desgracias es una de estas obras. En el catálogo de Ediciones Espuela de Plata y Renacimiento pueden encontrarse una buena parte, además de una muy buena representación, de la obra de Chesterton. Although Mexico began its national life in the 1821 as one of the most liberal democracies in the world, it ended the century with an authoritarian regime. Examining this defining process, distinguished historians focus on the evolution of Mexican liberalism from the perspectives of politics, the military, the Church, and the economy. Based on extensive archival research, the chapters demonstrate that--despite widely held assumptions--liberalism was not an alien ideology unsuited to Mexico's traditional, conservative, and multiethnic society. On the contrary, liberalism in New Spain arose from Hispanic culture, which drew upon a shared European tradition reaching back to ancient Greece. This volume provides the first systematic exploration of the evolution of Mexican liberal traditions in the nineteenth century. The chapters assess the changes in liberal ideology, the nature of federalism, efforts to create stability with a liberal monarchy in the 1860s, the Church's accommodation to the new liberal order, the role of the army and of the civil militias, the liberal tax system, and attempts to modernize the economy in the latter part of the century. This book depicts the Early Modern book markets in Europe and colonial Latin America. The nature of book production and distribution in this period resulted in the development of a truly international market. The integration of the book market was facilitated by networks of printers and booksellers, who were responsible for the connection of distant places, as well as local producers and merchants. At the same time, due to the particular nature of books, political and religious institutions intervened in book markets. Printers and booksellers lived in a politically fragmented world where religious boundaries often shifted. This book explores both the development of commercial networks as well as how the changing institutional settings shaped relationships in the book market.

Catechism primers are inconspicuous but telling little books for children combining the teaching of reading skills and religious catechesis. From the 16th to the 19th centuries, they have been produced, disseminated and used in huge numbers in many regions of the world, in particular in Europe. Remarkably, similar texts appeared across the continent, spanning confessional traditions that were in other respects highly divergent. In different places, and across the whole period, different denominations used not only similar pedagogical and religious strategies, but also shared the same formats and iconography.
