O presente texto busca rastrear os elementos trágicos existentes na obra de Fernando de Rojas, La Celestina. Para isso, vai retornar às origens do gênero e busca caracterizar o que é a tragédia e como se desenvolveu a partir dos gregos. Depois, vai levantar os elementos que poderiam caracterizar a obra de Rojas como trágica, concentrando-se em dois discursos principalmente, o de Melibea, no vigésimo ato da peça, e o de seu pai, Pleberio, que aparece no vigésimo-primeiro. Em seguida, procura identificar como o amor aparece na obra, buscando suas raízes literárias e fazendo um recorrido do que a crítica tem dito sobre a função deste sentimento para a construção do universo celestinesco. Ao fim, se busca a interligação entre estes dois elementos da obra, e se estabelece a conclusão que um depende do outro, e que se há em La Celestina tragédia ela é causada pelo amor, e se há amor, ele conduz à tragédia.

Fernando de Rojas (1470 - 1541), dramaturgo español, autor de La Celestina, considerada una de las obras cumbre de la historia de la literatura española y la más importante sin duda en la transición entre la Edad Media y el Renacimiento.
