Los antiguos preceptos y los procesos tradicionales que definieron y acotaron el ámbito de la creación en la época moderna se han visto inevitablemente alterados en los últimos años. La hibridación, el eclecticismo, el nomadismo teórico, la deconstrucción de los procesos, la libre mezcolanza de modelos clásicos y actuales, la apropiación y reinterpretación de textos e imágenes, han venido confabulando con las nuevas tecnologías de la información y comunicación para, por un lado, disponer escenarios temporales, fragmentarios y heterodoxos que se enfrentan a la utopía moderna, y por otro, reflejar el aspecto plural y el alcance de los medios de comunicación de masas en un crecimiento exponencial de la cultura visual. Es lógico entonces, que acontezca la descontextualización o al menos, el desplazamiento del concepto de originalidad como tradicionalmente ha venido sustentándose. Aquello diferente, ideado, creado, inventado o producido físico o inmaterial, adscrito a términos como origen, inventiva, creatividad, autenticidad, novedad, modelo o singularidad, es un constructo que, en el contexto citado, permanece impreciso, en constante actualización dentro de la cultura, el pensamiento y vida social.

This autobiographical novel on the life of the brilliant Belgian inventor Marcel Demeulenare and his wife Simonetta narrates the fabled story, set between the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th, of the couple during their years in Spain, turned into happy misfits who travel as jugglers and animal tamers giving entertainment shows in cities throughout the peninsula. Through their delicious dialogues, the reader will be able to learn about and delve into the advanced philosophy of this great woman of the 20th century and the great ideas of the great Flemish engineer, inventor of important technical systems. The real life that Simonetta and Marcel led during their unexpected stay in the Spanish city of Cuenca throughout the 1970s was the inspiration for this novel. The original manuscript, unpublished until the publication of this edition, was donated by Simonetta as a sign of recognition and gratitude to the International Museum of Electrography -today MIDECIANT- of Cuenca, whose officials had invited her to its inauguration in 1990. This edition rescues the original manuscript, incorporates its translation into Spanish and includes the rest of the original documents donated by Simonetta. To which has been added the textual and visual documentation of some of the original documents related to the fascinating life and important inventions by Marcel Demeulenaere. Esta novela autobiográfica de la vida del genial inventor belga Marcel Demeulenare y su esposa Simonetta, ambientada entre finales del siglo XIII y comienzos del XIV, narra la historia fabulada de la pareja durante sus años en España, convertidos en los felices inadaptados que viajan como juglares y domadores de animales, dando espectáculos de entretenimiento por las ciudades de toda la península. A través de sus deliciosos diálogos, el lector podrá conocer y adentrarse en la avanzada filosofía de esta gran mujer del siglo XX y de las geniales ideas del gran ingeniero Flamenco, inventor de importantes sistemas técnicos. La Historia Social de las Instituciones Punitivas está necesitada en España de encuentro y debate, de confrontación y colaboración entre investigadores e investigadoras. Solo así logrará hacerse visible e inteligible como tendencia historiográfica y sobre todo como apuesta teórico-metodológica, porque de hecho ya es más que creíble como práctica historiográfica. Aquí, en este libro, junto a los logros también se perfilan las carencias y los retos más acuciantes. Lejos de buscar una autonomía extemporánea, la Historia Social de las Instituciones Punitivas quiere buscar su propia viabilidad a base de intersecciones y buenas mezclas. Esos objetivos se planteaba el Grupo de Estudio sobre la Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas (GEHPIP) ―un equipo interuniversitario y con sede en la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM)― al organizar lo que de forma homónima decidió titular I Congreso Internacional sobre Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas, celebrado en Ciudad Real entre el 10 y el 12 de abril de 2013. El libro electrónico que aquí se presenta es una buena muestra de lo que allí se comunicó y discutió. Social History of Punitive Institutions in Spain needs meetings and discussions, comparison and collaboration between researchers. Only then it will become visible and intelligible as a historiographical trend and, above all, as a theoretical-methodological hope, because in fact, now it is more than conceivable as a historiographical practice. Here in this book are outlined, along with the achievements, the shortcomings and the most pressing challenges. Far from seeking an extemporaneous autonomy, Social History of Punitive Institutions wants to try to find its own feasibility based on intersections and good mixings. Those objectives were considered by the Study Group about History of Prison and Punitive Institutions (Grupo de Estudio sobre la Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas, GEHPIP) –an interuniversity team and with central office at Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM)– when organising what it decided to name in an homonymous way 1st International Congress on History of Prison and Punitive Institutions (I Congreso Internacional sobre Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas), held in Ciudad Real (Spain) from 10 to 12 April 2013. The electronic book here presented is a good example of what it was told and discussed there.
