Au fur et à mesure de la globalisation, les forces qui poussent les entreprises à harmoniser leur divulgation d'informations sociétales (DIS) ont été de plus en plus prégnantes, qu'elles proviennent d'une instance supranationale (la Commission Européenne) ou qu'elles soient issues de démarches discrétionnaires telles que la normalisation (notamment la GRI). Cependant, ces forces n'ont jamais réussi à harmoniser entièrement la DIS. Tous les observateurs mettent en évidence des différences importantes de contenu. Même lorsque les entreprises suivent les préconisations de la GRI, des différences subsistent dans le choix des sujets et des indicateurs. Ces différences indiquent la coexistence de forces centrifuges et centripètes. Les premières poussent à la différentiation et les secondes à l'unification. Dès lors, il était important de comprendre les raisons des forces centrifuges car si les forces centripètes s'expliquent par la globalisation, quelles peuvent être les raisons des forces inverses ? Cet ouvrage propose une analyse conceptuelle et théorique approfondie ainsi qu'une analyse empirique basée sur une étude comparative entre la France et le Canada.
