España estratégica es una reflexión sobre la historia desde un enfoque distinto a los habituales. En efecto, no existen estudios históricos dedicados a España en los que el hilo conductor sea la estrategia, entendida en su sentido más amplio como arte o traza con que se dirige un asunto, en este caso la vida de una nación. También, cuando proceda, se analizará el concepto, en un plano inferior y derivado del anterior, como el arte de conducir operaciones militares. Pero ésta no es una historia militar, sino una historia de pasiones sentidas por el pueblo español y por sus dirigentes en las sucesivas estapas de su existir como nación. Pasiones que, en todo caso, se someten a los dictados de la razón, ámbito propio de la estrategia como proceso lógico al servicio de la política de Estado de una comunidad. Voluntad politica en las distintas etapas históricas, métodos seguidos para satisfacerlas y sus derivaciones, bien hacia la distensión mediante las habilidades diplomáticas, hacia la disuasión basada en la exhibición de potencia o hacia el conflicto cuando se impone la razón de la fuerza, son los planos interrrelacionados en los que este trabajo se desenvuelve. Con óptica estratégica, aporta una nueva luz a nuestra historiograf ́ ́ia, constituyendo lo que, cabalmente, podríamos llamar una crónica de la defensa de los intereses nacionales.
