La Vida Al Por Menor written by Francisco J. Moreno Díaz del Campo and has been published by Universitat de València this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-12 with History categories.

Three Spanish Golden Age Plays written by Lope De Vega and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-11 with Drama categories.

Three classic Spanish plays, made famous by Shakespeare and Webster Two of the most famous and successful playwrights of Spain's Golden Age of playwriting were Lope de Vega (1562-1635) and Rojas Zorrilla (1607-48). From their prodigious output, the three plays in this volume, based on similar sources to Shakespeare's and Webster's versions, provide a fascinating comparison with their Jacobean counterparts. Lope's The Duchess of Amalfi's Steward, in contrast to Webster's play, focuses on the nobility of love, with characters who are complex and appealing. His Romeo-and-Juliet story, The Capulets and Montagues, is a fast-moving mixture of serious and comic, with an ending that will surprise and entertain. Rojas' treatment of Cleopatra, with its rich imagery, emphasises the love theme, held within a knot of jealous relationships. A full introduction by Gwynne Edwards sets the plays in context and provides a thorough study of the individual works.

This unique book weaves linguistic, cultural, and historical themes together to form a concise and accessible account of the development of the Slavic languages. In the face of such burgeoning interest, this collection of essays considers the Cavalli revival from various points of view. Following an introductory section, reflecting back on four decades of Cavalli performances by some of the conductors responsible for the revival of interest in the composer, the collection is divided into four further parts: The Manuscript Scores; Giasone: Production and Interpretation; Making Librettos; and Cavalli Beyond Venice.

Theatre Sacrifice Ritual Exploring Forms Of Political Theatre written by Erika Fischer-Lichte and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-07 with Performing Arts categories.

In this fascinating volume, acclaimed theatre historian Erika Fischer-Lichte reflects on the role and meaning accorded to the theme of sacrifice in Western cultures as mirrored in particular fusions of theatre and ritual. Theatre, Sacrifice, Ritual presents a radical re-definition of ritual theatre through analysis of performances as diverse as: Max Reinhardt's new people's theatre the mass spectacles of post-revolutionary Russia American Zionist pageants the Olympic Games. In offering both a performative and a semiotic analysis of such performances, Fischer-Lichte expertly demonstrates how theatre and ritual are fused in order to tackle the problem of community-building in societies characterised by loss of solidarity and disintegration, and exposes the provocative connection between the utopian visions of community they suggest, and the notion of sacrifice. This innovative study of twentieth-century performative culture boldly examines the complexities of political theatre, propaganda and manipulation of the masses, and offers a revolutionary approach to the study of theatre and performance history.

Life Of Don Quixote And Sancho written by Miguel de Unamuno and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-02 with categories.

Life of Don Quixote and Sancho is arguably Unamuno s most defining work, an audacious abridgment of the classic work from the seventeenth century. Finding that Miguel de Cervantes did not tell Don Quixote s story very well, Unamuno presents Cervantes s story the way he believes it should have been written, thereby weaving narration, commentary, and philosophy into a seamless whole. Unamuno here defines and exemplifies the courageous philosophy of Quixotism at length, revealing unexpected correspondences with existentialism.
