La sua ricostruzione storica intreccia a vicende come la guerra di Corea, la rivoluzione castrista a Cuba, la guerra del Vietnam e l’invasione sovietica dell’Afghanistan gli interventi più oscuri delle superpotenze, come quelli in Indonesia, Timor Est, Iran, Etiopia, Angola, Mozambico, Nicaragua ed El Salvador, senza trascurare il ruolo di Gran Bretagna e Francia, del Movimento dei non allineati, dei paesi arabi, del Sudafrica del l’apartheid e della Cina, che già agli inizi degli anni sessanta spezzò l’unità del fronte comunista.L’interventismo statunitense e sovietico ebbe conseguenze tragiche sui paesi del Terzo mondo, scatenando conflitti sanguinosi e irreparabili violenze culturali.
