Esta obra reúne un conjunto de escritos sobre mi país, el Uruguay. Dentro de ese marco general, trato temas políticos, económicos, históricos y religiosos, pero en todos ellos trato de traslucir de algún modo mi cosmovisión cristiana. Por supuesto, no todo lo que escribo aquí es doctrina cristiana, sino que incluyo muchas cosas opinables entre cristianos. Obviamente, la voz que habla aquí no es la voz oficial de la Iglesia, sino la voz de un católico; empero, salvo prueba en contrario, creo que nada de lo escrito aquí va en contra de la doctrina católica. La presente obra consta de 29 capítulos, 16 de los cuales son reediciones de los 16 capítulos de la Parte VI (En el Uruguay) de mi libro de 2020 Por el contrario... En general esos capítulos han sido revisados y actualizados. Los restantes trece capítulos de la presente obra, que en conjunto representan casi el 70% de su contenido, son inéditos en lo que respecta a mis libros. De esos trece capítulos nuevos, diez (los cc. 2, 3, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 22 y 26) provienen de artículos que publiqué en el diario El Observador de Montevideo y los otros tres (cc. 27, 28 y 29) tienen otros orígenes. Publico este libro como el Volumen 6 de la serie Aportes para una contracultura cristiana, serie cuyo objetivo central es contradecir varias corrientes de pensamiento predominantes en nuestra cultura contemporánea. En esta serie, un humildísimo aporte a la renovación de la cultura cristiana, expongo puntos de vista sobre Dios, el hombre, el mundo, la ciencia y la sociedad que hoy no se encuentran con mucha frecuencia en la prensa y la academia, dado que son desestimados o despreciados (sin razón suficiente) por gran parte de los intelectuales de nuestro tiempo. Procuro poner de relieve que el cristianismo constituye hoy la verdadera contracultura, en la que los seres humanos podemos redescubrir el modo de vivir una vida verdadera, buena y bella y de construir una sociedad más humana y fraterna, según la voluntad del Creador.
