La imaginación autobiográfica es la capacidad para cooperar en la construcción de una escritura biográfica abierta y sugestiva, capaz de ayudar a comprender un tiempo y un espacio humano, de leer una historia social a través de una historia de vida. Dentro de las escrituras del yo, la autobiografía ha ocupado un lugar privilegiado; ha sido una de las manifestaciones literarias más asediadas y mejor investigadas desde hace medio siglo. Ha contado con una bibliografía creciente cuyo análisis muestra el interés que ha suscitado entre los teóricos de la literatura, la lingüística y la historia, incluyendo también, la participación denodada de los filósofos.Si bien los acercamientos y debates teóricos han versado sobre la autobiografía, esta circunstancia no impide destacar la atención que han merecido las diversas manifestaciones autorreferenciales. O sea, aquellas expresiones literarias a decir de Pozuelo Yvancos: "identificadas por su capacidad de revelación personal en las que un yo rememora una experiencia propia, sea ésta más o menos íntima, observable o pública lo que marcará diferencias interiores dentro de esa familia de géneros"; manifestaciones que, por otro lado, según Anna Caballé, comparten "la autorreferencialidad y el apoyo estructural tripartito [de]: un eje temporal o histórico, un eje individual y un eje literario"; ejes cuya importancia y función se modifican de un género a otro y explican las distinciones existentes entre ellos. Las vidas ajenas, las vidas de los otros son siempre seductoras; despiertan en nosotros la curiosidad y el morbo del corazón. Sobre todo, cuando en esas vidas se nos devela parte de nuestro ser individual y también nuestra pertenencia a una colectividad: creamos vínculos de reciprocidad y afecto al sentirnos parte de su vida, de las historias y testimonios que han forjado, aquéllas que guarda la memoria y desdibuja el olvido. Es así como la vida de los otros, deviene en la vida de los nuestros.

Adjusting the Lens offers a detailed analysis of contemporary, independent, indigenous-language audiovisual production in Mexico and in Mexican migrant communities in the United States.
