Después de la muerte del dictador Francisco Franco en 1975, la nueva España democrática le ofrece a la mujer española más libertades. Numerosos autores españoles tratan estos cambios en su obra literaria. En este trabajo examino cinco de ellas: Las edades de Lulú por Almudena Grandes, La pasión turca por Antonio Gala, Con Agatha en Estambul por Cristina Fernández Cubas, El vergel por Josefina Aldecoa y El asesino de los sueños por Concha Alós. Aunque estos autores en su novela reflejan tal emancipación también muestran a unas protagonistas atrapadas en su rol social de mujer. A pesar de sus numerosos intentos de escape - por la experimentación sexual, el viaje y el exotismo - las protagonistas nunca logran evadirse de su posición social y por consecuencia permanecen atrapadas en la imposibilidad existencial de la mujer.
