Interpretamos los conceptos "individualidad" e "individualismo" con ciertas diferencias a cómo la RAE los define. El primero vendría a significar, según esta institución, una cualidad particular y singular de alguien (así lo entendemos también, aunque llegamos más lejos para decir: esencia de la naturaleza humana, incluso intuición, conciencia, etc.). El segundo, una cierta independencia de una persona cualquiera, no sujeta del todo a normas generales, más una supremacía del individuo frente a un Estado y la sociedad -en este caso, quizá lo entendamos de un modo similar, si tenemos en cuenta un individualismo de credo (o doctrina) religioso, filosófico u orden semejante-. Otras fuentes hablan de la individualidad como esa dimensión del ser humano indivisa (coincidimos con esa idea). Otros, al contrario, ese todo que integra los sentimientos, la conducta y el conocimiento. También hay quien hace referencia a ella comparándola, o incluso identificándola, con la moralidad; a veces, también con la insumisión (en cierto sentido). En cuanto al individualismo..., lo entendemos y lo situamos en el centro de la personalidad individual, en el sujeto social, muy a menudo dogmatizado por un sistema de creencias asentado.
