La interpretaci�n de los sue�os es una obra de Sigmund Freud. La publicaci�n inaugur� la teor�a freudiana del an�lisis de los sue�os, cuya actividad describir�a Freud como la v�a regia hacia el conocimiento de lo inconsciente dentro de la vida an�mica. Freud plantea que los sue�os son una realizaci�n alucinatoria de deseos y por consecuencia, una v�a privilegiada de acceso al inconsciente, mediante el empleo del m�todo interpretativo fundado en la asociaci�n libre de los s�mbolos m�s importantes del sue�o. El texto es importante ya que Freud expone de forma sistem�tica su primera teor�a sobre el aparato ps�quico (o primera t�pica). Freud se�ala que demostrara que existe una t�cnica psicol�gica que permite interpretar sue�os, y que, si se aplica este procedimiento, todo sue�o aparece como un producto ps�quico provisto de sentido al que cabe asignar un puesto determinado dentro del ajetreo an�mico de la vigilia. Intentar�, adem�s, aclarar los procesos que dan al sue�o el car�cter de algo ajeno e irreconocible, y desde ellos se remontara a la naturaleza de las fuerzas ps�quicas de cuya acci�n conjugada o contraria nace el sue�o. Los sue�os, desde el punto de vista freudiano, constituyen formas de "cumplimiento de deseo" - tentativas del inconsciente para resolver un conflicto de alguna clase, ya sea algo reciente o algo procedente de lo m�s hondo del pasado. Sin embargo, debido a que la informaci�n en el inconsciente se encuentra en una indomable y a menudo perturbadora forma, un "censor" en el preconsciente no permitir� que pase inalterada a la consciencia. Durante los sue�os, el preconsciente es m�s laxo en este deber que en horas de vigilia, pero todav�a est� atento: como tal, el inconsciente debe falsear y deformar el sentido de su informaci�n para que pueda pasar a trav�s de la censura. As�, las im�genes en los sue�os a menudo no son lo que parecen ser, seg�n Freud, y necesitan de una profunda interpretaci�n para que puedan informarnos sobre las estructuras del inconsciente.
