In questo romanzo autobiografico, l’autrice Maura Maria Rosa racconta l’evoluzione dell’Italia dal 1950 in poi, partendo dai ricordi legati alla Latteria di Fòrmica Verde di via Carducci, gestita dalla sua famiglia e grazie alla quale ha visto gli italiani cambiare, anche attraverso piccoli passi verso l’emancipazione femminile, che lei stessa ha vissuto in prima persona. Raccontando i frammenti di alcune scene del proprio passato, l’autrice offre al lettore un gradevole viaggio indietro nel tempo: modi di dire del dialetto piemontese, tradizioni, piatti tipici e nuove abitudini di consumo, per esempio guardare la televisione, diventano uno strumento per rendere protagoniste della narrazione tutte le persone che, in un modo o nell’altro, sono state importanti per l’autrice, persone ricche di valori che hanno reso l’Italia un posto migliore. Mi chiamo Maura Maria Rosa e sono nata ad Asti nel 1954. Dopo il diploma al Liceo Classico, mi sono iscritta a Fisica a Torino, laurea mai conseguita a un esame dal traguardo. Ho fatto moltissime cose, una vita poco convenzionale. Ho insegnato matematica nei corsi per adulti “150 ore: la comunicazione scientifica”, argomento delle ricerche per la mia tesi, è stato il mio lavoro più importante. Trasferitami a Venezia, avendo incontrato il mio attuale marito in un viaggio in Egitto, con lui ho continuato a viaggiare appena possibile. Ho fatto la funzionaria sindacale, la collaboratrice in Parlamento e nel Consiglio Regionale Veneto. La politica, a favore dei diritti delle donne, dell’ambiente e degli animali, è un’altra mia passione: sono stata Consigliera Comunale a Venezia e Presidente della Commissione per le politiche femminili, componente nazionale e provinciale della Commissione Pari opportunità e ho fatto parte della carovana di pace delle donne nella ex Jugoslavia durante la guerra dei Balcani con Alex Langer. Ho lavorato per venticinque anni presso l’Azienda dei Servizi Ambientali Veneziana Veritas spa, dove ho seguito, in particolare, l’educazione a ben gestire i rifiuti e a valorizzare l’acqua del Sindaco, nelle scuole, agli stranieri, nelle assemblee cittadine, ai carcerati, poiché anche a Santa Maria Maggiore si fa la differenziata. In pensione, cammino in campagna dove vivo, coltivo il giardino, faccio piccoli lavori di grafica per alcune associazioni: ora sto scrivendo un libro di storie per bambini sulle avventure di un netturbino ambientalista e i suoi rifiuti parlanti. Ho cinque gatti trovatelli (Istria, Carbonella, Martina, Moutarde ed Evangelino) e un cane meticcio, Maurito.
