Fantascienza - racconti (256 pagine) - I racconti vincitori del Premio Mary Shelley. Il meglio della storica rivista amatoriale che negli anni Settanta pubblicò fantascienza di livello straordinario. È passato quasi mezzo secolo da quanto, nel 1975, un club di appassionati di fantascienza padovani decide di dar vita a una rivista amatoriale di fantascienza. Sarebbe stata dedicata alla narrativa e avrebbe puntato a una qualità elevatissima, pagando gli autori e cercando di creare una via italiana alla science fiction. Nasceva così The Time Machine, e poco dopo nasceva il Premio Mary Shelley, che avrebbe premiato ogni anno i racconti migliori. In questo volume Mauro Gaffo, uno degli animatori del club, ha raccolto i racconti vincitori e qualcosa di più, riportando ancora una volta insieme alcuni tra i migliori autori di fantascienza italiani del Ventesimo scorso. Mauro Gaffo è stato giornalista scientifico e vicedirettore di Focus. Scrittore e saggista di fantascienza, ha vinto il Premio Robot alla sua seconda edizione (1977) con il racconto Nel fondo dell’oceano. Negli anni ’80 è stato tra i curatori di The Time Machine. Con M. Tropea e L. Grimaldi è stato redattore di Interno giallo. Collabora con Robot e Urania. Il Club Fantascienza Padova è nato nei primi anni ‘70 grazie a Filiberto Bassani e Luigi Valerio. Dopo una serie di rassegne cinematografiche entrò ben presto nel mondo delle fanzine, allargandosi negli anni a una ventina di persone. Alcuni dei suoi membri, come Gianni Catelani, Gianni Marchiori, Andrea Astolfi, Amedeo Levorato, Nurit Szarvas, Tito Ruzzante, Massimo Giacon, Loredana Bottazzi, Pierluigi Miozzo e tanti altri, collaborarono alla fanzine per periodi limitati. Il nocciolo duro, la redazione che portò avanti per quasi dieci anni la fanzine The Time Machine era formato da Filiberto Bassani, Piero Bassi, Alessandro Bortolami, Mauro Gaffo, Franco Stocco. Ed è grazie a loro che oggi la macchina del tempo si è rimessa in funzione trasportando fino a noi alcuni dei suoi migliori racconti con un balzo di mezzo secolo.

The Time Machine is a 2002 American science fiction film loosely adapted from the 1895 novel of the same name by H. G. Wells and the screenplay of the 1960 film of the same name by David Duncan. Arnold Leibovit served as executive producer and Simon Wells, the great-grandson of the original author, served as director. The film stars Guy Pearce, Orlando Jones, Samantha Mumba, Mark Addy, and Jeremy Irons, and includes a cameo by Alan Young, who also appeared in the 1960 film adaptation. The film is set in New York City instead of London, and contains new story elements not present in the original novel nor the 1960 film adaptation, including a romantic backstory, a new scenario about how civilization was destroyed, and several new characters such as an artificially intelligent hologram and a Morlock leader. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Makeup (John M. Elliot Jr. and Barbara Lorenz) at the 75th Academy Awards, but lost to Frida.
